XDM 5.25 Barrel Finish Sucks
What's the deal with the finish SA uses on their barrels. I have a 2 week old XDM 5.25 9mm that I've ran 500-600 shots through and the barrel and guide rod finish is worn terribly. Is this the norm with SA? I have a Smith Wesson M&P 9c that still looks absolutely like new after a couple thousand rounds. I love the XDM and the way it shoots, but not the finish .

Its just a bluing, buy a 3.00 cold blue pen and touch up the barrel.

Sorry to hear it bothers you so much.
My XDm is for carry. I doubt any thugs will be judging the barrel finish if I am ever forced to use it.

You could always polish it if you want it too look nicer.

I haven't taken any pics of the finish yet, but I have e-mailed SA and will be interested in hearing their response. Are the stock barrels stainless steel? It's obviously the norm for their finish, my buddy loved the way mine shot so much that he bought the bi-tone last week, he shot a bunch over the weekend and it looks worse than mine. For those of you that don't care about the looks, all I can say it to each his own, if you're OK with your's looking shabby, so be it. As I said in my original post "I love the gun" (fit, feel, accuracy and dependability) just don't think it has a quality finish. In my opinion they missed it in the finish arena.

I can understand frustration. You paid money for it. I've had my life depend on guns with a worse finish. It is a machine. It will show wear. Id say as long its not wearing into the metal it will be ok.
Glad you enjoy the pistol though.

I run my guns hard. I like them to be dirty and beat up as long as they continue to work well.

Did you buy the gun as a tool or a showpiece? The wear is normal, shows character. You wouldn't feel threatened from someone with a shiny, new never shot pristine masterpiece. Beware of the guy with the well-worn gun, he knows how to use it.
