19-round to 10-round CA legal conversion
Just shipped two of our 5.25 19-round magazines off to have them blocked and riveted to a 10-round CA legal conversion. We are heading out to CA here in a few weeks and neither of us wanted to leave our 5.25's at home so we thought... why not each of us take one of the three 19-rounders that came with it and get it converted. I just hope it makes it back in time for the trip. If not... we may need them to return ship to our family's CA address.
Anybody else had this done before? What was your experience?

Is this a visit or a permanent move?

I have never had mags pinned so I don't know much about that but I would be very careful bringing guns into cali as non residents. They have to be locked and unloaded with the ammo locked in a separate container, and what I have read says you can't just drive around with it in the car you have to have a legitimate reason for having it in the car (meaning to and from the range or shop, etc).
If the mods are permanent then the mags themselves are cali legal at least.

All of us here in CA have done it. All the mags have to be downsized to 10-rd max cap in some form or other, because, you know, it prevents terrorism
Your only worry is driving around / handling the firearm -- we have stupid laws most people can't even imagine.

With the EBR mag blocks, you do not need a rivet, but the baseplate of the mag must be glued in place. This the same way 20 and 30 round AR mags are blocked and they are sold legally in Cali this way.

The EBR kit (they're on Gen 2 of that kit now) is an excellent kit -- super easy to install.
The law says the mods must be permanent, and in the absence of any guidance from our DoJ (why would they do anything remotely helpful for the people who pay their bloated salaries?) the "common wisdom" is that epoxying the insert in place should meet the permanence requirement.
Having said that, there is no guarantee. Anyone who tells you that you "must" do this or that is wrong, because we simply don't have any clarity in the law. Try and use your best judgement -- what would a jury of moronic Californians think is permanent?

A couple drops of epoxy is all. Go to Home Depot and get a blister pack of the 5-minute epoxy and you're GTG...it'll cost you 2.99 or something, and you'll waste 5 times as much as you actually need to use.
I spoke with Michael about why he didn't include the epoxy in the kit, and just like everything else in California -- blame the lawyers. He was going to include a little bit of epoxy in the kit -- he even had it sourced out and everything -- but his lawyers said no.
Apparently, if he includes the epoxy, and you screw up mixing it properly, or using it properly, then he is liable for your magazine's lack of "permanence" -- or at least, that's what his lawyers told him.

You've got a great atitude, brock -- you'll have fun.
Heckuva coincidence....I met a guy at a local USPSA match a week ago or so, he had just received his blocked mags back and he couldn't get 10 rounds in to save his life. He said one take 9 rounds with tons of effort and the other takes 8, regardless of effort.
He called and was also told they were all tested before being shipped out, too...
I say use them then ask for your money back!
