my XDm story...

this is for anyone doing research on the XDm and are on the fence about it.

i bought a beretta 92FS SS 11 years ago for my 21st b-day. i loved the look, feel, and balance of the gun. but i couldn't hit sh!t with it. plus it jammed all the time, probably more FTE than actual ejections. i only put about 800 rounds thru it in 11 years. i considered myself someone who didn't enjoy shooting pistols, because i didn't.

a buddy of mine called one day in january and said he was going to go look at 45's and wanted to know if i wanted to come. ummmmmm....... YEAH!!! i know there is no such thing as a dumb question, but that was a dumb question!!! he ended up with a glock 21.

well, since we were at the gun shop, and i hated my current beretta and was tired of looking at it and not shooting it, i figured that i would look around too (plus, my 32nd b-day was coming up ). all the various models they had in stock of the S&W, FN, sig, HK, glock, ruger, skipped right over the beretta's. then the guy said, i have springfield as well. springfield...i didn't know they made handguns. so i figured, what the heck. as soon as i saw the XDm 5.25 compettion, i had to finger it. he showed me the XD, it was ok, then i held the XDm, and i liked the grip and balance much better. then he took out the 5.25. feel in love. i traded in my 92FS for the XDm 5.25 competition 45acp.

well, 3 months and 1000 rounds later (zero failures), i am trading in my 45 for a 9 due to the cost of ammo. pre-XDm, i didn't care for pistols, remember, i had my 92FS for 11 years and only put about 800 rounds thru it. so i wasn't worried about the cost of ammo. well, after shooting my XDm, now i enjoy shooting pistols.

so, on saturday, i traded my XDm comp 45 for an XDm comp 9, bought a 3.8 compact 9 as well with plans for a storm lake barrel, and silencerco osprey suppressor.

so, that is my little story for anyone who is interested in the XDm and doing research.

Glad you found out about springfield. I have 3 and with plans to get more of them!

Question? I never understand it. Why trade In a gun because of ammo costs. You could still use it for the heck of it. Idk I buy a gun it's mine and paid for I don't plan on getting rid of any of my weapons ever. I am up to 6 and growin now

i am not a collector. if i don't use it, it is gone. i didn't plan on liking pistol shooting. i never liked it. that's why i wasn't worried about the cost of ammo when i bought the 5.25 competition 45. i think i just hated my beretta that much!

plus, i didn't want the same weapon, in 2 different calibers in the house. god forbid, if the situation would ever arise, i can just see my wife loading a 9mm mag into the 45.

i have my reasons, and that is all that matters. a buddy of mine has 4 9mm's, 3 45's. al different manufacturers. i don't get it.

i just want one of each.
hunting rifle: rem 700 30-06 200th anniversary edition
target rifle: rem 700 milspec 5R .308 20"BBL threaded for suppressor
flint lock: T/C firestorm .50
.22 rifle: rem 552 speed master
target .22 pistol: ruger MKII BBL
hunting revolver: ruger SRH .44
pistol: XDm 9 competition
CCW: XDm 9 compact (future home of a suppressor for the house. i want to get 2. one for me also)
shot gun: rem 870 3"mag 12 gauge
AR: S&W M&P ar-15
my dad's shot gun: rem 870 20 gauge
my dad's 22: marlin bolt action i learned to shoot on

i am sure i will ad more when my son gets old enough

Hello and welcome to the forum from Florida. Shooting your Ruger Mark II would save 80% over the cost of 9mm ammo. Just sayin'.

Thank you for that interesting story about your past and present pistol experience! Isn't it interesting how the "right" gun can totally change your perceptions? It's kind of like buying shoes or cars, you would never just buy them without trying them on, and so it should be with pistols or any firearm really. To me, for my hands, the Springfields (XDm40 3. just feel "right"! Some other pistols feel good, for sure, like S&W M&P for instance, but not as good as the XDm's.

That's why I bought a Ruger SR-22. Cheap to shoot, fun too.

While I have a large collection, I'm with you..if I don't shoot it, I'll trade it in and get something I will use. Let the other guns go to someone who will enjoy them on a more regular basis
