New Spring Question?

I was looking at buying a solid guide rod and a new recoil spring. This may be a silly question but there are different spring weights to choose from ranging from 14 to 20. I have no clue what difference the spring weight will have on my gun and which one would be the best for me. Any advice is really appreciated because I am completely lost. Thanks!

You didn't mention what gun you are shooting? If you are shooting factory ammo, then stick with the factory spring. Unless you have fired thousands of rounds through the gun, you shouldn't have to replace the spring either.

Sorry, I am shooting the XDm 3.8 Compact. Thanks for your response, I always buy factory ammo, so I will stick with the factory spring.
