Carrying full size
Does anyone carry a full size XDM? If so what holster do you use? I'm new to this forum. So a little about me, I'm just about to turn 21, I am a father of a 10 month old daughter. Looking for home defense and carry. I am a avid hunter and fisher. I live in Oregon. I want to buy an XDM and this would be my first pistol.

Welcome!
People were carrying Full-Sized Autos for Decades before Compacts and Subcompacts came out (I still have a Gen2 G-19 that's honestly older than you ) and many still do. While my G-19 is a compact rather than a Full-Size, I can conceal carry it, or my XDM in the right shorts & T-shirt setup.
There are plenty fine brands of IWB and OWB holsters out there, including Crossbreed (a Forum Sponsor and my favorite), as well as Comp-Tac's MTAC Minotaur (interchangeable 'bodies').
Many holsters built for the regular XD will fit the equivalent XDM, but many build for the XDM.
The trick is learning how to 'Dress Around' your choice of Concealed Carry weapon, which may involve changing some the styles you prefer.

Welcome to the Forum from Texas! Yes people carry full size handguns, but there is a reason why compact and sub-compacts have come along. They are much easier to conceal. Easy conceal is more about the length of the grip, not barrel length.
If you went with the XDm 3.8c. Adding the magazine extension gives you the "full" size for HD, and the shorter grip for SD conceal. 2 for the price of 1.

Welcome to the forum from SC. I have carried all 3 models of the 4.5XDM with the same holster. I run the CB Super Tuck for deep concealed carry and for my day to day I use a Galco IWB K819WC SUM440

Hello and welcome to the forum from Florida. Congratulations on your daughter. You are in for quite a journey! The XDm is an excellent choice. What you don't want is a "left" gun -- left it at home, left it in the car, etc. -- because it is too heavy or too uncomfortable. I chose the .40 3.8 for carry because, FOR ME, it was the right combination of size, weight, and stopping power.
The Crossbreed and a sturdy belt (important) should work for whatever you select. I chose the Silent Thunder Fusion because it is a little smaller than the Crossbreed and is leather lined Kydex, which is supposed to protect the finish of the gun from excess ware.
Good luck with your shopping. Let us know what you end up with and how it performs for you.

Not an XDm, but I do carry a 5" XD-45 in a Remora holster everyday. Congrats on the baby-girl! Good on you for wanting to protect you and your family!

This is exactly why I chose the XDm 3.8 Compact 9mm. 19+1 rounds with the full grip, and 13+ 1 round with the compact grip. In addition, I compromised a bit on caliber and went with 9mm for more economical plinking and target practice. With 9mm for SD conceal and HD one should choose the proper ammunition to get the most out of what some consider a marginal caliber.
It is also my experience that with the 3.8 compact, don't get a cheap $25 holster especially if it is an Inside Waist Band type. This gun is a little on the thick and heavy side and if you use a cheap holster, you may find that it is more comfortable to leave it home. I got my Oregon CHL last month and learned this the hard way. If you are interested, I have a IWB holster I will sell for $25
