Hard to find a gunsmith
I did a search for a gunsmith today while at work and found a couple to call while driving home. I am looking for someone to possibly put in a new trigger on my XDm 9c. I called multiple places and most couldn't do it on an XDm. I called a couple of places that could but they had at least a 2 month backlog. 2 places actually had time and could do it, and it was going to run about $65.
Most of the places I talked to had never put in a new trigger on the XDm's and would have to "research" how to do it.
Is it me or is this weird? I would think if you are a gunsmith, you could do it? I know the drop in trigger kits are easy, and I'd watched vids on them but I don't trust myself sanding down things to make them fit.
Anyone know a good gunsmith in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area that works on XDm models?
Should I learn to be a gunsmith? Looks like there is plenty of work to be done...

I don't know where you are in Dallas, but I know one in McKinney.
Give him a call and ask. Gun and Knife Supply, McKinney Tx. 972-369-0088
Speaking of smithing on an XD/m I found this course through AGI. Think it would be well worth the $$ if ya want to really get to know your pistol.

Why not just get a PRP kit and do it yourself ? Couple hours at most.

Honestly, it doesn't look that hard, I just don't trust myself to do it right. Some of the vids show guys sanding "just a little bit" or "using x tool to position x thing .2mm back for x reason". I would hate fort fun to blow upon my hand. I've never worked on a gun before.

Yes, you need to sand the back of the new trigger to get the over travel correct. If you sand too little, it won't fire or won't reset. If you sand too much -- it just moves farther.
There are no special tools. Just punches to push out the pins and a hammer to tap them and a file or sand paper.
They also have the "drop in" kit which is just straight parts swapping.
If you can't find a competent local person, you can always ship it off to PRP and have them do the work.

I guess I'm lucky, there are a few within 20 minutes drive from me. I would be comfortable using most of them.
The only thing I would send one out for is for a sight install. Anything else, pistol or rifle, I do myself. Youtube is the sh1t for how tos.
