brand new xdm 4.5 9mm thoughts and questions
Hey Everyone,
I am new to Springfield and this forum. I just bought my first XDM. I went to the range yesterday and fired just 100 rounds in order to evaluate what needs to be done. This gun has the worst site job I have ever seen. Every shot was 4 inches to the left of bullseye. Granted the grouping was awesome but I didn't have any tools with me to adjust the sight alignment. Obviously this is an easy fix. The trigger absolutely sucks compared to my favorite handgun Sig P229 .40. I am used to a short crisp trigger. The XDM seems to go on forever. So another quick fix via a trigger job (should make the gun damn near perfect and still cheaper than a Sig.) I also wish that the grip safety was either larger or gone. I loved the handle angle and the weight of the gun. This gun has tremendous potential.
Has anyone tried out the PRP trigger kits? Specifically the Target Match and the Ultimate Target Match. Does the addition of the new sear make that big of a difference? Which trigger kit did you use and what are your thoughts as to the improvement in function over the OEM trigger?

So you hate the gun but you like it??? Did you shoot the XDm before you bought it?

Hint - Odds are 1000:1 that it's NOT the sights.
It's the trigger puller. Try and alter your finger position so you are not twisting the gun while firing.
You can make the trigger better by selective polishing (or just fire 1000+ rounds) to wear it in.

No I was not able to shoot the XDm prior to purchase. I don't hate the gun at all, I just see room for improvement to bring the gun to my liking.
John_Bud- I did attempt altering my finger placement after each mag. I am not twisting the gun when firing as best as I could tell. I had minimal muzzle flip and was in great alignment (still on target) after each shot. I had terrific grouping throughout the rounds and at various distances. Within the first mag I adjusted for the difference in distance pull as compared to what I am used too. In my experience adjusting the sites should be the correct course of action. I am completely open to any advice however and will continue to workout the bugs so to speak
Thanks

I had the same feelings when I got my XD9. I didn't like it's trigger pull at all! Lots of pretravel, mushy, long reset, etc.....
I put the PRP kit into my XD9 along with some other non trigger components. I polished it all up and now I LOVE this gun! It has become my favorite gun. The long pretravel has been reduced, the pull is under 4# and it's a much quicker, crisper reset. I got the ultimate match kit which requires a little bit of know how to make sure everything fits properly but it is WAAAY worth it's price. This kit will be standard in every XD pistol I get from now on. Go for it and I think this will become your new favorite gun too!

Lapthis-
thanks for the trigger info! I am definitely leaning towards to the Ultimate kit but I am still wondering if the sear makes that big of a difference.
Has anyone trigger just the Match Target job?

Lower left is the pull of the trigger. A good way to find out for sure is ask if you range has a pro or gunsmith around who can test it and let you know.
I put the PRP carry trigger on mine and love it. I use it for IDPA and my everyday carry. I am very pleased with the gun. I have no issues with the rear safety and as long as you get a good purchase on the gun when you grab it, its a non issue.
I do suggest spending time with the gun to get more comfortable with it. Makes all the difference in the world!

I plan on getting that trigger job before I adjust the sights I was not shooting low just to the left. I will not rule out "me" as the source of the error. I am use to a much shorter and lighter trigger.
Does anyone have anything to say about the PRP sear? Is switching it out worth the money on the more expensive kit?
