Thumbs down XD Gear Holster fail, watch the rivets!

I just got my xdm9c 2 weeks ago and was just practicing drawing from the holster for IDPA. I drew about ten times or so and noticed a brass colored scratches on the barrel. I have not scrubbed it yet to discover the severity.

The barrel is exposed on the holster and was getting scratched by the rivet on my jeans.

So word to the wise be careful!

Truth be told, ditch the XD gear holster and get a quality holster, its terrible and will dissapoint you at every turn. I'd almost say that a cheapo rigid nylon holster is better.

On a better note i doubt that brass rivets are gonna hurt your gun, the steel and finish is WAY harder than those rivets. If anything the streaking you are seeing will be the gun wearing down the rivets, not the other way around.

Welcome to the club!

And Warlord is correct. Soft brass is no match for the Melonite treatment.

It's been posted here before -- easy to freak out, but the rivet is softer than the gun. The gun isn't harmed, a copper cleaner will take the rivet material off of the gun.

Am actually surprised that you gave it a chance. Not very good hu? They do work pretty good in combination with the loader for a custom vehicle rig. So they can serve a purpose other than dumpster fodder.

Free XD Holster for your car, truck, vehicle, ATV ... whatever.

I hate to burst their bubble, but if thats a basic Fobus as it looks to be, that means it ISNT Kydex. What it is is low strength injection plastic, likely Zytel (being the cheapest and weakest of the plastics suited to the task.)

I actually like the one I got with the gun. It is great for the range. I would not carry with it, but it does the job it was meant for.

In what way exactly did it disappoint you at every turn?

I've OC'ed with it fairly extensively in the woods and never had any issue with it at all.

For me the holster it came with is just to be used until you receive the good holster that you'll be ordering. I have the 4.5 and the barrel bangs in to chair arms when sitting. I got my Don Hume 2 weeks after I took possession of my XDm and couldn't be happier with both.
