Convert XDm 3.8 .40 to 9mm or buy compact?
I have a 3.8 in 40 S&W and I would like to have a 9mm. I know I can buy a barrel from one of the vendors, but I've heard differing opinions on whether it will be as accurate and reliable. I also considered just chopping my grip and making a near compact, but I still want 9mm so I'm leaning towards just selling my 40 and buying the XDm compact in 9mm. Any opinions on the shooting comfort of the 9mm XDm or whether the "conversion barrels" can be as accurate and reliable as stock?

I 3rd that! Only downfall is it has quite the bark for a 9mm but then again it is a Compact. Having both size magazines is amazing!

I qualify as a newbie - first fired an autoloader on 10 Aug 11. My XDM 3.8c 9mm is my first handgun. It is concealable with 13-round magazine, shoots well with controllable recoil so my groups at SD ranges are 3" to 5" and effective out to 15 yards.
With 19-round mags, fun at range.

I would just buy the one I wanted before i went through chopping grips , changing barrels, ect....heck, keep what you have and buy a compact....never have to many guns !!!

Exodus, is the 40 your only defensive firearm? If it is , you would benefit in haven't a second one, 9mm being a good choice. If you ever need to use your firearm in a defensive nature, it will most likely be evidence and the police will sieze it as such. And you may need the second firearm for self defense. Just a thought, stay safe.

Just like another member said. If this is your only gun get another. I remember a few times were I had to send my xd and my S&W pistols out for service. Luckily I have backups. Also 9mm is my favorite pistol cal to shoot.
