Im at well over 6K rounds through either of my XDMs and have no had this issue. I do believe if its metal, and contacts other metal, it needs to have some sort of lube. Here is mine.

I agree. I did contact S.A. concerning oiling the striker area and they told me that it was not necessary and that if you should oil it that it could cause the striker chamber to collect dust and eventually cause the striker to get stuck. Of course this does not damage the pistol as one can clean it out and apply oil again....I would suggest a dry lube in that particular area thought...

Update. I got it back from PRP and it seems the over travel stop was causing the striker safety to engage. They readjusted it and now all is right with the world.

well, I just found out about this issue yesterday at a USPSA match. I bought the gun from a local guy and when I bought the gun it was clean on the slides and the trigger but I found out it had some carbon build up in the striker hole/chanel. Stripped it and cleaned it well. The only thing I can't remove is the case ejector and the piece of metal with spring that prevents the striker to fall.

I didn't know it gets this nasty

it had some decent amount of carbon build up in there

now cleaner

Now keep it dry and you should be good to go.

Since my new XDm9 is my first striker fired weapon I decided to read the manual.

On page 35 under Care & Cleaning it says "DO NOT APPLY OIL OR GREASE TO STRIKER"

That's good enough for me 'cause, maybe I'm being silly but, I'll betcha the guys at Springfield know a bit more about it than I do....
