Took my new, unfired 5.25 to the range yesterday and ran a couple hundred rounds through it.
Used Federal and Lawman plinking rounds.
230g round nose FMJ
The trigger was just like any XDm I've shot. initial throw is very light and its easy to find the wall.
There is enough resistance to "rest" against it to take final aim and squeeze.
Recoil was less than expected. This is actually a pretty heavy gun when saddled with a 13 round mag.
This is the first day-glo sight I've ever shot and was pleased with how easy it was to reaquire and aim.
But the rear sight needs to be white outlined.
And the front sight, I think, needs to be a little wider to better fill the rear sight. I see more daylight on either side of the front sight than I'd like to see.
I sent ~200 rounds down range. The target was being consistantly hit 3" left and 3" low in a 3" grouping at 15 yards.
I'm not fiddling with the sights till I get another couple hundred rounds through it.
I was able to compensate quite a bit by shifting the front sight to the left in the rear sight window and get much closer to center.
And if I completely hid the target behind front post, I could bring the grouping up.
Am I weird that I don't want to lose sight of the target behind the post?
I sight all my open sighted guns to shoot a little high for that reason.
I basically rest my aiming point directly on top of the front sight post.
Regardless, the grouping was exactly what I'm capable of.
In the hands of someone else, the gun is capable of a lot smaller grouping.
The sound this cannon makes isn't like the "pop" you hear from a 1911.
This is somewhere between that and 357 mag.
Each casing ejected had the faintest nick from the ejector and the firing pin made a solid and consistant dimple. Not a single FTF or FTE.
Casing ejected about a foot high and immediately to the right with decent velocity to get the shell up and away enough even for a left-handed shooter.
Even after shooting cheap loads, the gun wasn't particularly dirty. A quick wipe-down and I think it's ready for another 1000 rounds.
Next trip I'm taking my 1911 and will do a back-to-back comparison. But I think I have found my new favorite shooter ...
