Would like to buy a new XD-M 45 this weekend but I live in CA?

I went into a gun shop today to buy a XD-M 45 and was told they do not sell them in California. I also spend much of my time in Parker, AZ and I am thinking about buying it in Parker, AZ. Here area a few questions.

1) Can I legally bring the XD-M in CA if I buy in AZ?
2) What are taxes in AZ if I buy a gun? (State, county, additional gun taxes ect...)
3) What is needed for ID? (I just renewed my passport and do not have it back yet)

I would hate to get all of the way out there only to find out I forgot something or they will not sell me the gun.

Just need to be a legal (provable ID) resident of AZ for the purchase.
Do some reading on www.calguns.net/, calgunlaws.com/ , or U.S. Handgun Laws and Gun Laws - NRA-ILA ::

and similar sites for the most recent laws.

The next time you get to Parker ... Don't turn around, and never head West again.
Problem solved, and you'll then be living in a free State

I'm not sure about California law,
But you'd probably be in violation of their laws, if you were still a resident of California when you made the purchase ... Then when you were caught with the gun, they'd take your gun, and lock you up for a long time ... Then when you got out, you'd have a felony on your record, and might never be able to legally own another firearm.

Leave the State or leave the idea of ever owning an XDm-45 in a box full of wishes ... I doubt they'll ever approve one in that liberalized, socialized, communist place called California.

But I'm no specialist in California law, so ... Join calguns.net (as suggested) and ask other people who live in Cali

When I bought my .45 XDm, the salesman told me I cannot bring it to California. There is also a label on the outside of the case saying it is not legal there. I don't know the laws there or if there is a way around it.

Thank you everyone and it really pisses me off that as a tax paying citizen and a life long NRA Member that I need to abide by these ****** rules. The state of California sucks! I will go over to California Gun Laws and see if there might be an option for dual residency but it sounds like they got that covered too.

Is it because its a .45? I just bought a XDm 9mm in CA with no problems. Because the gun is not on the legal guns list in CA, they have to put a 10" barrel on it and a 1 round mag to make it a legal purchase. I leave the store, then bring my gun back in to get worked on and they replace the factory parts. It will have a 10 round mag, but other than that its exactly the same.

Probably more to do with the magazine capacity.

From CalGuns

Quote:
The CA DOJ Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale, the 30 Day Rule, and C&R Pistols
Handguns for purchase in California are regulated by this roster, and manufacturers send their new models to testing facilities so CA DOJ (Department of Justice) can decide whether or not the gun is “safe” for our use or not. If it passes, the manufacturer pays a fee that must eventually be renewed, and their handgun is added to the roster certified for sale in CA.

Most people do not know that you are able to acquire a handgun that is not listed on the roster through one of a few methods.
The first method is to become an LEO (Law Enforcement Officer). You will be exempt from the safe handgun roster. The second method is to have a local FFL (Federal Firearms License. In this context, referring to an FFL07, or a dealer authorized to sell you a handgun, and manufacture/convert the pistol) convert your desired off-list pistol to a single shot pistol, rendering it exempt from the roster. You will be able to convert the pistol back to its semi-automatic state once in your possession. The third method is to purchase the off-list pistol through a PPT (Private Party Transfer) [FTF (Face to Face) only], either from an LEO directly, or from another person who has legal possession of the off-list pistol. Note: Purchasing an off-list pistol requires that both buyer and seller are present at the FFL. The seller cannot ship the pistol to an FFL and have the FFL do the transfer for the buyer. Both must be present.

Only one new handgun (unless on consignment) can be purchased from an FFL every 30 days. PPT’s (Private Party Transfers) and consignment handguns are exempt from this rule.

C&R handguns (50 years old or more), are exempt from the CA handgun roster, but still needs to be DROS’ed through an FFL, regardless of whether or not you hold an FFL 03 (License to collect Curios & Relics).

Check out the S&W M&P 45acp, they are great handguns. I like the feel and the trigger IMO is much smoother then a glock. I just got back from the range and tried both XDm, Glock, and M&P all back to back and the XDm is my first choice and then the M&P comes in 2nd. The glock was fine I have no complaints just felt like the 1st two were much better IMO. Sorry you can't own a XDm45, maybe you can get it thru a private party in Az and then just keep it there in your 2nd home. Good luck and whatever you choice make sure its what feels and shoots the best to you.
