Yep, I can look straight thru the little hole, lol... You would think it would be easy to remove with no pin, but I can't get it off using normal strength, afraid to use anymore force...

removing my pin was easy. Go spend a few dollars on the correct size punch and a rubber mallet. Using the right tools makes any job easier. It is hard to keep the gun stable on a flat surface while trying to hit the pin out, so try it another way. Even if you put the gun flat on a towel or something its still going to move around and it sucks slamming the grip against the table as you strike the punch. Put the base of the punch on a stable work area so one hand can hold the punch vertical while using your other hand to hold the gun in the air with the retaining pin on the head of the punch. Then carefully and starting with a light force, hit the grip with the mallet to drive the pin out. If it doesn't come out increase the striking force a little bit. It doesn't take much force to drive the pin out, a rubber mallet against a wide surface area such as the grip is safe and the gun isn't flopping all over the table as you try to stabilize it and center the punch at the same time while swinging a mallet. Using this method with the right tools I could change my back strap in a minute, 2 minutes tops.

I used a small allen-head and punched it out from left to right. Worked fine...

I'm not sure what's up with mine... I guess it was shipped from the factory with no pin, but it is not wanting to come off at all!

The pin is a hollow roll pin...you should be able to look right through the little hole. Get a 3/32 pin push and start tapping away. I'm fairly certain you will be pleasantly surprised when that pin comes out.
If there is no pin, the backstrap should come right off...unless it was glued in place and what you bought wasn't really a brand new gun.

That's better than an unhappy genius. You would have had to pull reeeeeely hard without taking the pin out! Glad you got it figured out.

Im referring to the pin that holds the backstrap on the XDM compact. Trying to change out the backstrap to a different size but the pin holding it will not come out.

Pin is very tight, brace it up well from underneath. (best to use a sand bag)
You may want to try a 1/16 pin punch, it will fit in the ID of the roll pin so punch will be held by pin as you drive it
