please be patient.... I'm still new to this forum and learning how to use the Search tools

I'm interested in the XDm 3.8 Compact (will be my first handgun).

It's not clear from the doc and pictures I've seen if there are replaceable backstraps on the XDm 3.8 Compact. And, if so, how does that work/fit with and without the extended Mags?

it has 3 different back straps with it, It also has 3 different mag extensions to match the back straps.. They really did a good job putting this kit together.

I think all XDm have the changeable backstraps.

It is a great gun, I don't think you will be disappointed.

The backstraps aren't too difficult to switch. I use a small pin punch to knock out the pin that holds the backstrap on and pop it back in.

Understand, took me awhile to study the package and figure it out also. The #2 backstrap is installed, the two magazine sleeves are what your talking about, #2 is installed on the mag to match the grip backstrap. Then the others sleeves and backstraps are marked I & III respectfully... Here is a pic of mine.

The system work great, I usually just insert the 13 round mag and leave that one in. At the range I tend to use the 19 round. I have not modded a Pearce PG-XD extension yet, but will probably do that also.

I have an XDM and a Compact XDM. The compact will be much easier for me to carry especially in summer wearing lighter clothes. You will love it. I dont know what I will ever do with the large extra parts as I have small hands. I wish we could trade them in instead of paying $10 to buy different sizes with extra clips.

The difference in the backstraps are the size, or overall diameter of the backstap when looking at the magazine sleeves. The XD(M) Compact is different than the other XD(M)s, as they chopped the grip thus had to make the back strap two pieces, the piece that can be changed on the grip, and the sleeve that goes over the full size magazine. The gun comes with the number II installed, both on the grip and magazine sleeve, so if you want to change to a smaller grip size you change the backstrap on the grip to the number I, press out a pin and it snaps off, new one snaps on and press pin back in. Then with the XD(M) compact you would want to match that number I with changing out the magazine sleeve to a number I. Hard to see the size difference in pictures, but they really do make a difference in the grip size.

IMO, you want to get these accessories. The kit comes with one 13 and one 19.

1. An extra 19 or two
2. An extra two or three 13 round mags
3. Two or three Pearce grip extensions
4. The Fobus Holster replacement (SP-11B) or better.

(Reason is it is a much more positive retention than the one in the kit which seems to be a low end version and I couldn't really tighten it down enough to fit right with good retention.)
5. Shoot-N-C green circle targets (greatly improves accuracy feedback)
6. Take a look at a model that has the factory installed tritium night sights. Had I known about them, I think I'd have waited to find one. The default is just painted white).

PS - when you order the extra 19 round mag, be sure you pick 1, 2 or 3 model of the extension so it will fit with the backstrap module you choose. 1 is with the small, the 2 med, the three large.
