????Should I Be Concerned????
Ok so this was the second time I went out to the public State Game Lands pistol range.
Brought with me my Springfield Armory XDm9 and 100 rds. of ammo.
- Winchester SXZ9 JHP 115 grain
- Remington UMC 9mm Luger 115 grain
*50 of each...
I had put 100 rds. through the gun a week before. And used Winchester SXZ9 Training FMJ 115 grain 9mm rounds. No jams, no misfires. All went through perfectly!
12/8/09 comes around today and I am shooting fine and dandy. Then I pop in some of the Remington UMC into one of the two new mags I got in the mail yesterday. I fire off four rounds just fine. I fire a 5th and it fires nicely, however... (See pictures below) I don't know the proper term, but I call it a misejection of the cartridge.
This was round about 172-175 through the gun. The round beneath it wouldn't properly load into the chamber, so I immediately took it out as well and put it back in the mag. Loaded it into the gun and it fired. Then I put the rest of both brands of ammo through the gun without issue.
Should I be worried at all? This has just happened within the first 200 rounds through the gun. Gun fault, magazine fault, operator error, etc...?
Thanks for your opinions and help in advance.

Was your grip solid? ...search on 'limp wristing', that might have been your problem, just a weak grip on that round.
Hopefully someone else will chime in...

There are several possible causes which you need not be concerned about.
First as previously posted you could have limp-wristed the firearm. If you don't have a solid enough hold on a semi-auto it can fail to feed.
Second you mentioned you had no problems with the Winchester ammunition and this occurred a few rounds into trying some Remington UMC. Some firearms don't like some ammunitions and your pistol may just not work well with UMC. I'd try shooting some of the UMC some more and see if you have any further failures.
Finally you may have just got a bad round. Even factory ammunition has flukes and you may have hit one of those flukes. It very well could have been an underpowered round that sliped out.
None of the three above scenarios are anything to be worried about as far as safety goes.

Thanks guys. It caught me off guard and kind of started an alarm in my brain. Like great my brand new gun is having issues already after near 200 rounds through it.
With all this said, is it possible that it damaged anything inside?

some guns need a break in period of about 500 rounds before everything works perfect. I only had one jam with my two xds (one each) and they both happened in the first 500 rounds
dont worry about breaking anything, i cant see anything you would have hurt. just give it a good cleaning and lube it up

I had troubles with UMC 9mm in my Sigma....only pistol I've used any UMC in. They seem to have some lax quality controls. I had much the same trouble...either a stovepipe or FTF every fourth or fifth round. The whole bloody 250 round box was like that. The only thing I could see was that brass wasn't crimped consistently when compared to WWB or Blazer Brass. So, to rectify the problem, I quit using the UMC completely and the trouble went away. Since then, I only use WWB and Blazer brass for the cases and reload my own. My stuff works so much better than factory ammo, it isn't funny.....unless I screwed up something. FWIW, I reloaded all the UMC cases and have shot about 80% of them one more time. I have had no issues with the cases at all. Their components are good, I think the problem lies with their crimping in my case and maybe yours. Hard to say.

So...did you give her a good cleaning and lube when you first took her out or since?
The grease they are shipped in is pretty thick and much carbon and dust can collect in it. It migh cause slide issues...not likely considering the loose tollerances of a "combat" pistol such as the XD line, but possible.
Might also be some machining residue still in there. I'd give her a good cleaning and light lubrication.
Other than that, everything else I can think of has been mentioned.

"Stove Pipe"- This is "mostly" caused by "limp wristing" when you shoot. However, your gun could have some issues with cycling certain brands of ammo. (It's been known to happen.)
Do a thorough cleaning of your gun AND magazines. Make sure all excess oil has been removed. Then mark your magazines so that you can evaluate if the magazines work properly.

I always clean my new guns prior to shooting. On my XD(M) I gave it a good cleaning before I shot it, then shot once, field stripped and cleaned it again, did this 8 times or so, then started shooting it like I stole it.
