I want to make my XDM FDE, is Cerakote infinitely better than Duracoat?
From around the internet I've read Duracoat scrapes off easily on pistol barrel due to the slide grating into it.
What would I need to make the slide and the frame, which are two different materials, the same shade? In some places I've noticed the slide will be a completely different shade due to the metal reacting differently.
And if I don't have the brass to do it to my XDM, I'll probably pick up an XD Service at a gunshow nearby soon. I've only just become more lenient in what I will do to my firearm.

I would HIGHLY recommend against Duracoat. I once did this to the slide of my XD45. It was prepped properly...cured for over 1 month (I didn't do this myself). But after a few times at the range...it started chipping near the ejection port, etc.
It's just too soft. Eventually, I sent it off to Tripp research to have it removed and then Hardchromed. It still looks absolutely mint 3 years later and hundreds and hundreds of rounds.

Thanks for the input!
I've heard Cerakote is better, and I want the slide to be the same color, as opposed to most who have a colored lower and stock silver/black upper.

Definitely Cerakote. Thinner stronger coating. Looka at Welcome to Para Bellum Inc. This is not an add, but they are who did a coat on my CZ and it was an open gun that saw a great deal of use. You won't be disappointed.

So, the barrel would definitely start scratching like it already has on my XDM?
I've contacted Scott and Springer Precision about having a few things done to the setup it's currently in.

You will get less holster wear with Cerekote BUT don't refinish an XDM. The original finish is harder than anything you will be putting on top of it.
