Sorry there is no conversion for a 9 to a 40 but there is one for a 40 to a 9.

If the frames for the 3.8 and 4.5 xdm are the same, can you buy the 4.5 and order a new 3.8 slide and barrel and just change them out based on what you want to carry that morning? I only ask because Ive been torn between the two, and I thought maybe I could have the best of both worlds.

From my understanding it can be done but at the moment you would have to buy both guns in order to do so as SA won't sell the slide and barrel separately. Also the recoil system from the XDm 4.5 is different then the 3.5.

I've been looking at a few subcompact handguns and wanted to find the main differences b/t the XD and XDm to determine which I want. Based on the below I think the normal XD will.
I've found this in a few locations:
1. the XDM has a better quality match grade barrel (more accurate)
2. you can change the back strap on the grip for variation in grip size
3. has better recoil system (heavy duty guide rod spring)
4. has striker status indicator (to verify weapon is cocked)- may have this on origional XD, but not certain
5. has a MRT (minimal reset trigger) similar to sig's SRT (short reset trigger)- this is a great improvement for follow up shots.
6. deeper, longer slide grasp serrations for grip
7. more texture on polymer frame for better grip and control.
8. 16 rd. mag vs. 12 rds in the origional service model XD .40
Are any other points worth noting?

From this post it sounds like you have enough to make a good choice, but I'll add one more thing, if you look at the grip, the thumb rest and mag release area, the XDM is thinner and for those with smaller hands have been able to grip my XDM better than my XD service and was easier to shoot one handed

I can't find my manual- and I couldn't find this information online-
I didn't see this in the FAQ:

According to a post I found on gunandgame.com: "Rifling: six-groove, 1:16" RH Twist"
