Can you switch slides? - XDTalk Forums

Ok so I'm a newbie to the XDm family. Was wondering though if I had an XDm SS/OD in .40 and one in Blk/Blk 9mm could I swap the slides?

No, I don't think so. If they were both .40 or both 9, then you could. You can get 9mm barrels for .40 slides.

I think so, I thing they use the same frame. Just make sure the frame is the same and that the mags will fit. I COULD BE WRONG.

the mags are the same size, the 9mm mag is a .40 mag that has a pressed in section to reduce the inside demention,

are you asking if you can just change slides?, why would you want to? is one frame a different color or trigger job?

Yes. I was thinking about buying a .40 XDm with the stainless slide and OD frame. Already have the black XDmm 9mm so thought I might fancy switching things up every now and then.

i have not tried it, but since the mags are interchangeable, i would think the slide is too, just know you want switch the barrels, if you shooting .40 your slide will always be stainless, and if shooting 9mm, your slide will always be black.

this is assuming you dont get the conversion barrel

The barrels are not interchangable between .40 and 9mm. The external diameters of the barrels are different, and as such the hole in the slide through which the end of the barrel sits are different sizes. So if you were trying to make it so you had a SS 9mm and black .40, it would be a no-go.

Now, if you're talking about the entire slide & barrel assembly, then I don't see why they wouldn't fit.
