I think that your probably slapping the trigger. I have to work on this issue when shooting my XDm and I think the cause is that the trigger return spring is a bit weak. The return spring on my Sig's is only about 1/2 lbs. heavier but it's just enough to keep me on the trigger. Every time I take the XDm out for some range time, I find myself slapping the trigger and my accuracy suffers a lot until I start paying attention.
BTW, I warn up for every range session by shooting either a S&W model 67 or model 620 in Double Action using 38 spl. I think that any revolver shooter will have to fight the tendancy to slap the trigger with any semi auto with a light return spring. If you really want to see what you can do with your XDm, spend some time shooting nothing but your XDm. In 3 or 4 range sessions you will adapt to that light return and you'll find your shooting it much better. Concerning your problem magazine, try taking some 800 grit wet sandpaper and sand the inside top edge of the feed lips. Some of my magazines were just a bit rough in this area and I found that just a small bit of detailing really helped. I still have an occasional mis-feed on the very last round of a magazine but at this points it only happens after 90 rounds downrange. I have found that I can minimize this issue by paying a lot of attention to cleaning the hook on the extracter. Because of this, I suspect that a bit of careful stoning on the inside surface of the extractor would probably cure it completely but so will just shooting it more, so currently I just plan on putting another 1000 rounds thru it and then decide what I want to do. As for your sighing issues, the sights on my XDm were spot on perfect from the factory. There are index marks engraved into the slide on the XDm so you may want to give a look see for these marks using a magnifying glass. What you should see is a small recessed groove engraved into the bottom of the dovetails in the slide with about 1/2 of the groove being covered by the sight base on each side of the slide. Finally, some good news for you. Springfield Armory has a superb reputation for customer service. So, if you do have some issue that you thing may call for their attention, don't hesitate to give them a call. However, make sure that you spend some quality time with the XDm before you throw in the towel, that trigger does take a bit of getting used to for any one who has done a lot of shooting with a heavy return. |

I've been shooting my XDm 9 alot. I have 1800 rounds through it so far. I took my XDm 40 to the last range trip and I couldn't shoot or hit as good as my XDm 9. I bought my XDm 40 before my XDm 9 and only have 500 rounds through it. So I have to practice more with the XDm 40 even though they are the same gun but different calibers.

It is all in the practice , my first trip was pretty bad... after working on my grip , dry firing , and practice practice, I am finally very good with my xdm9.
Just takes practice

The first 2 steps you should take when ANY pistol doesn't shoot well for you:
1) put it on a rest and shoot it 2) have someone else shoot it 90% of the time, the problem is in the shooter's technique (and you can have a technique that works for one gun and fails for another) BUT the bench rest never lies and will tell you right away if there's an issue with the gun that needs to be sent off. Also, Aguila ammo is pretty shoddy stuff. I've put some through my XDs before without issue, but I know others have found it pretty problematic. I've never used it in my XDm.

I made a stop at a Cabelas store on a road trip yesterday, They actually had .40 S&W loading dies in stock so I can load some ammo for this gun now.
I have 100 rounds of my brass in the tumbler along with 100 rounds of allegedly once fired brass that looks like it came from a Glock (rectangular firing pin dimple, and some brass has the telltale "Glock .40 bulge" from their older guns with the unsupported chamber) and some various range brass. Once i get this stuff cleaned & culled, I'll try some different loads and see what works best, and produces some better accuracy than I'll be able to spend some serious time at the range. Everything but the FTF's I had is probably my shooting with an unfamiliar gun. I just found it odd that when I shot the baby eagle for the first time ever, I was tight. but with my own gun I was all over the place. We'll see what happens later this week. Thanks for the input. |

Some of the original xdm 40cals (the first batches) has issues with a lot of ftf. I would benchrest fire it...see if that helps the accuracy. Otherwise...call SA. There cust. svc is first rate (once you can get ahold of them)

I'm no expert by any means and I am a newbie to this forum, but I think this is somewhat "off" advice. Seems like you need to do the most shooting with the type of gun that you intend to carry. The gun you shoot the most is probably the one you have the most fun with. Carrying something you don't like to shoot and are not proficient with is..... well, just a bad decision IMHO. I'm guessing most people using this forum do develop and maintain reasonable proficiency with whatever they choose to carry.
