Ported conversion barrel

Been thinking about getting a 9mm conversion for my XDM. Kindov leaning toward getting the extended ported barrel; if for no other reason, just to make it obvious what barrel is in the gun. I assume I'd need a different recoil spring. I've heard that some can get by with the 40 magazines as is, others say they need to be tweaked or get the 9mm version.

Anyone else here try this? anything I'm missing?

Would it be relativly cheap to machine it to 357 sig down the line if the notion takes hold?

What do you mean by "machine it to 357 sig? conversion barrels are readly available for 357 sig.

There are some posts on this forum from people that are using the 9mm conversion barrels, the consensus seems that the 9mm mags work the best.

I'd assume you could get a 9mm chamber drilled out to 357sig.

You can buy the .357 barrel as well.
With the mags, I have heard of people using and bending their .40 mags. But I would just buy the 9mm mags, they will fit in your .40.

The spring you only have to change if you have the ported barrel. Check out EFK Firedragon. They make a nice ported 9mm for the XDM.

I was in the same boat as you... I bought the EFKfiredragon 9mm conversion barrel. I wanted the port barrel so I would know I had the conversion barrel in.. Plus, I think the ported barrel looks great.. If you have many round through you gun, or have are very stead holder you might not need the different spring... I did not have very many rounds through mine. With the stock spring I could fire off like 5 times in a row & then would get a fte. I put in an $8.00 spring (16#) never had another problem.. I have put many rounds through the new barrel with not one problem.. It is sweet. The barrel fit in great & it was nice & tight. Also, EFKfiredragon already has the flush style .357 sig conversion barrels out. They will be coming out with the ported version soon. That is the one I am waiting for.. Once you pay someone to barrel out your 9mm barrel you mise well just order the .357 sig barrel & keep your 9mm barrel. More options to shoot later on..

I too bought the 9mm ported conversion barrel for my XDm40... I'm now waiting on a new spring (16#) and 9mm magazine order since I've had many FTE & FTF (failure to feed) issues with the stock spring and 40 mag.

I don't know whether having a certain number of rounds through the gun really makes a difference or not, as I only have about 250-300 total rounds through mine, but I can only get a couple shots off before I experience either a FTE or FTF.

I have faith the new spring and mag will make a significant difference... but I don't expect 100% reliability since this the ejector is not truly designed for the 9mm brass.

It certainly is accurate though!... and it looks great!

A ported barrel on a 9mm is pretty worthless from a performance standpoint. If you want the barrel to be recognized, have it done up in a different color than your factory barrel.

Crashburn,

Please keep us updated to your round count so we can better gauge conversion reliability.
