The gun show one I want to say I gave $24 for. It was in a bin of used mags, but looks almost unused and the spring was still hard as hell

The one I ordered from Springfield, just so I could have two full mag carriers and one in the gun, so $39 or whatever it is.

I have also heard through the grapevine that they make a conversion kit for the XDm .40 where you can change the barrel and spring to chamber a 9mm—if this is true, this would make the XDm.40 the better choice.
I will say this, I have had my XDm.40 for three months now and I have put over 500 rounds through it and I have not had any problems with it thus far. She shoots like a dream!
yes indeed there is such a conversion and many on here have done it. you could do this and it would add MORE cost buy also more value... again... I'll wait for the 45 ACP and be VERY VERY happy when it arrives!

I disagree to a point....I am a newbie. I KNEW about GB.com and using a local dealer, I saw the savings if it was just the gun I wanted. However, I needed more than that. My days of shooting go way back, but I haven't done anything in years. Can't shoot around here anywhere but a range. Too bad, Orlando has grown so much. I needed some refresher instruction, that was free. Would not have been with GB.com.

I needed range time....I got 30 days free with the purchase...that could easily make my purchase at 649 cost me less that doing the GB.com and getting it shipped to the same place.

I also like supporting the local guy and helping him feed the family as long as he is reasonably near what it costs to do business through GB.com (or others),

That said, I do think the folks charging over 700 are out of line. But there are many things that go into determining value, price is just one.

I understand what you are saying, and if you find more value in a local deal then by all means do it! It's not a garuntee that all local deals are outrageous or worse than online. I am talking specifically about the Obama gouging that is unquestionably going on. Hell, I went to Bass Pro, and I would estimate Glocks, XD's, etc all went up $70-100 in the past year for no REAL reason. I saw a Walther P99 for $669 last year...it was $779 last week. I get it, i get they want to get while the gettin is good, but I am just saying people have options. Keep in mind, the guys on gunbroker are "local guys" as well. The place I got mine from seemed like a small hardware/gun store in the south. If that guy is going to sell me something cheaper and with good service, I am fine with my money putting food on his table.

Knothaid,

And this is EXACTLY why I created this thread and did things they way I did, and should probably update my original post to include the advantages OF buying from a gun store vs GB and sites like it... Free stuff, local advice, and people to help you with questions, advice and problems.

I am happy for the discussion, the diversity of views has great value to me. I have been enjoying learning from each of you. I like this site and I expect to learn a lot more. I am kinda glad when people share and sometimes even disagree in a civil manner. It allows for good discussion that each of us can gain from. This thread has a lot of pluses and minuses for different scenarios and let's others dissect and apply to their own situation....good on y'all.

You don't play much golf do you

After I gave up regular golf and took up shooting, I had way more spare change ijn my pockets! Even with the increased cost of ammo!

If my wife happens to complain about my gun habit, I always remind her that "at least I'm not into golf..."
