RMC,
Back in December last year, I managed to get a pretty good deal on my XDm40... Bi-tone, with SA tritium 3-dot night sights for $614.95... that was considered a really good price in my area (the NE corner of the People's Republic of Obamistan, next to the Fiefdom of Daley the Younger).

Re ammo, for general shooting (range, plinking, etc.) I like to Selier & Bellot and Fiocchi, and will buy WWB, Aguila, even Remington if the price is right... haven't found anything yet the XDm would not eat. For SD, I generally buy Speer or Hornaday.

I won't mention their name but I saw the XDM 9mm going for $749 in a very well known gun shop in Tampa. Considering that it can be had for around $630 everywhere else in town, it's highway robbery.

XDm cost for the budget minded...

Nice post. Here's my version for the more budget minded buyer. I purchased everything in the past month(with the exception of the supplies that don't change in price often-cleaner,patches,glasses,earplugs).

XDm "Real Life" Cost

$550 - all black 9mm NIB shipped from gunbroker.com(took some hunting and luck, yes)
$50 - FFL transfer(this is actually normal for my area)
$105 - 500rds Brown Bear target ammo +50 rnds Fiocchi 147g JHP from Sportsman's Guide
$105 - 500rds WWB from Walmart
$5 - Can of Remoil from Walmart
$4 - Hoppe's #9 from Walmart
$5 - Nobu shooting glasses from Walmart
$2 - pack of 8 31db earplugs from Walmart
$3 - 300 Code V cloth patches from Walmart
$5 - 3/32" Craftsman punch for backstrap from Sears
$0 - Old toothbrush
$834 - Total with everything you "need" and 1000rnds of practice fun

All that's left is range fees and targets!!! Enjoy

You think thats bad Del-ray shooting center wanted $799.99 + tax for a bi-tone, wouldn't budge on the price. Went about 10 miles north to Palm Beach shooting center... $689 out the door...

My XDm cost

I just recently purchased a new XDm from galleryofguns.com, had it shipped to the gunshop of my choice.( Bryant Firearms in Fairview, Oklahoma--great guy to do business with) After tax, shipping, and FFL fee I ended up paying only $600.00 out the door for a NIB all black XDm .40

XDmega9,

That's an awesome deal that you got on your XD but most people who are buying a gun for the first time wont feel comfortable buy one on the internet nor know how to get one plus the added complications of most of them needing to be transferred to an FFl holding dealer anyway with usually cost another 40-50 bucks. But as you said it was still over 800 to get started which is considerabbly more than the price of your origianal gun.

Oh, and as far as some of your walmart purchases... yeah I won't buy nor recommend cheap things that I wouldnt use on my own guns. Rim oil is out for me as is hoppes. used to be good things but there what my dad and grandapa used and hence why walmart carries them, there is much better stuff that will prolong the life of your gun and make it shoot better. tech is a wonderful thing.
Enjoy your XDm I'm really enjoying mine..... Took some gun porn of it last night, probably post it when I get back from the range!!!
