I went with the 9mm XDm mainly for the capacity - I LIKE having a whole box of 9mm in my pistol! Will probably never need them all, but if I do, I have them. I have a Ruger .380 for carry, so if I can defend myself with that, then the argument of whether an XDm9 or an XDm40 is better for home defense is pointless - both will get the job done, and selection is left to personal preference. My $0.02. I don't think you'll regret going with XDm9.

I was in the same boat as the OP. I chose the 9mm after speaking to a swat/army guy. He told me that caliber doesn't matter. A .22 will kill just as well as a .45, it's just shot placement. It's better to get the gun you shoot best with and improve your placement.

yeah i find 9mm attractive mainly because with ipsc and idpa you are going to be shooting pretty much the same number of rounds per stage regardless of what caliber you are using. better to do it with the cheaper round.
