The caliber debate will never end. Ever.

As long as we have multiple options, we will have multiple opinions.

If you carry 9mm, there are pleanty of modern hollow point rounds that will have no issue taking a bad guy down. You have 20 trys to figure it out. Just remember: it isn't like the movies, and 1 shot isn't going to necessarily save your life. Shoot until the threat STOPS.

The 9mm is a better choice for the range. Cost of ammo is much less than other calibers, so you can shoot more often.

If nothing else: keep the 9mm for range duty, and get a .40 if you are worried about carry. You made a good decision with the XDm no matter what caliber you get.

Every now and then I get that tinge that I should have bought the .40 and barrel conversion. But then I go shoot the 9mm and realize all is well. 19+1 should be more than enough for any BG and the fact that the barrel was gunsmithed correctly means most of my 19(+1) should be well placed, if the need arises.

One comment on the blessings of having a 20 round magazine for self defense; if your assailant has a gun I doubt you will live if your first 3 rounds do not put the bad guy down. However, if I find the XDM 9mm performing as well as promised, I likely will be first in line to buy an XDM .45 when SA brings them to market.
I agree whole heartedly. If the BG is a Virginia Tech wannabe or someone equally committed, these need to be precision shots. I can personally, as I found out today, shoot the XDM 9mm at short rifle distances and still be fairly accurate in a 2x2 target. Next time I go, I'm taking a camera because I give much kudo's to the makers on this one. I still love my Glock, but there is something a little extra special happening here.

9mm, its sexy and amazing to shoot. I know i wouldnt care if i got hit with a 9 or 40, i would just care that i got hit!

Ps. I can completely shoot out a 2X2 center of a target with 28 rounds at 10yds, So I think made good enough shots to where it doesnt matter what caliber ive got.

Wait for the .45. All others need not apply.

I think MD-Lucky has it right.

We have the technology to give you an effective 9mm defensive round for you to put down bad guys.

Good luck with the new 9mm XDm.

I enjoy my .40S&W XDm waiting till I can afford the 9mm XDm.

I think they're both right. 45 and 10mm. I'll get them both!

Back in the 80's I went to 40 because I couldn't comfortably hold most 45 hi-caps - like the Para-Ordinace. I have SIGs and a Walther P99 in 40, plus the XDM40 now. When the XDM45 comes out (how could they not offer it?) I will be camping out for one.

But I doubt I'll give up my 40's, especially the XDM40. I like it too much.

I'm thinking that, since I really like the way the XDm feels in my hand, and the XD's I've had in the past have all shot well, I think I'll just get a .40 and a .45 when it comes out. I don't think you can have too many XD's!
