Getting a XDM 9 but not sure what finish...
Soon I will be purchasing a xdm 9mm and I have decided that I want a bi-tone stainless/black. My question is, am I better off buying the bi-tone from the dealer ($630 ish) or getting the black ($580) and then saving up a few extra bucks and getting the slide finished in hard chrome from Hard Chrome Plating & Electroless Nickel Plating, Armalloy & Gun Bluing by Mahovsky's Metalife. Any opinions? any experience with metalife?
Also, what would this do to the warranty? (my guess is I would no longer have one but who knows)
Thanks in advance

I went with the BiTone, I have read the hardchrome is softer than the metanite or metalife or whatever you call the coating, IDK my throy is if you cant decide...buy both and be happy!

I prefer blacktical but if you're dead set on chrome then I'd just buy the chrome model from the get-go.

Personally I like the all black. Have you seen the all black XDMs with the chrome style barrel and guide rod? It looks so good.

Hard chrome is tougher, and harder than stainless, by far. Melonite(the black one) penetrates the surface of the metal to prevent rust, the black coating that you see is not Melonite, it's just a coloring, and that is not as tough as hard chrome. Hard chrome also has a natural lubricity to it, and requires very little oil. The gun will cycle smoother with hard chrome. There is no downside to hard chrome, if done properly.
DigMe, Springfield doesn't offer a chrome finish, it's a stainless slide

If you are going to have it refinished, buy the cheapest you can find (all black.)
May even try to pick up a pre-owned XDm. That would save a little extra to put toward the refinish.
I have a stainless slide. Love the looks of it, but it is already showing more wear after 2 months of use than my all black subcompact is showing after 2 years of use.

I like my bitone for cleaning, it is much easier to see what to clean then the black. But this is just my opinion.
Also it would depend on what you plan to use the gun for, if you were going to carry, I would go black.
