Very nice job!! Do you have any info on the procedure for doing this? I'm a tech by trade & soldering irons are nothing new to me but I'm scared about taking after my XDm without more information & what type of soldering iron & tip are you using? Thanks for any info!

When I hold it like a pencil, the tip contacted the surface of the frame on the edge. I tried to position it so that it hit on a corner.
Does that make since?
Nevertheless, I was scared also at first, and I thought about it for a while before I decided to go for it. I didn't press very hard (so not to melt to deep...it doesn't take much) and just took my time. It was real easy and it didn't take any practice to make it look good. Once you get started you will see what I mean. Just don't get in a hurry and make nice clean edges.
It would be cool to have some material to practice on. A guy could try different tips, and different techniques to come up with something that looks real cool.

Looks great. No way that I get anywhere near my XDm with a soldering iron though. I couldn't draw a straight line with a ruler...

I wrapped the grip of my XDm 9mm in self-grip tape. After carrying for a couple of weeks the edges started to curl a bit so I wrapped the edges in some vinyl tape.
It's not pretty, but it adds a nice feel and some compressibility. Also very cheap and easy to remove/replace.

Wow you did a great job. I am not sure I am understanding how though, is the marks purely from melting, or is it from melting and sticking on the skateboard type tape?
