Another thumbs up for James

None of the local gunsmiths in my area would touch the sights on my XDM, so after doing my research and sending an email which he replied to within minutes, I sent my slide off to James in Alabama with just a few butterflies in my stomach.

I received a courtesy call to let me know the work was done and the slide in the mail. Total turnaround was one week. No marring on the slide, sights perfectly centered and accuracy only limited by my skills.

He might be getting more business from me due to the sights themselves not being quite what I hoped for (does NOT reflect poorly on James). I went with TruGlo fiberoptic/tritium and they just aren't as bright as I hoped for. My eyesight isn't what it used to be so I need all the brightness I can get.

I'll keep these for at least a few more months before making a decision, but if anyone has any suggestions for a better/brighter option in a 3-dot config I'd be interested and grateful for the info.

I just sent my 3.8 slide to James for some Meprolight XDM sights. I didn't bother trying to do them myself since he does them for free if you just buy the sight from him.

I have Ameriglo night sights for my FNP 45 (that I'm sending to James) and Dawsons night sights on my XDm 9mm Compact. The Ameriglo are MUCH brighter. I know their the same Tritium, from Trijicon. But the holes exposing the vials are larger on the Ameriglo. And there's a very nice, crisp white ring around the lamps.

Might try them.

Please let us know what you end up with. I, too, had James install a set of green TFOs on my XD-40, and they are incredibly bright, and I haven't seen anything that "outshines" them.

Did you get green, or a contrasting color combination? I guess he offers green-front and yellow-rear....

I got the ones with the yellow rear and the green front. Under the right lighting conditions (i.e. bright outdoors or directly under an indoor lamp) they are very bright, but change the angle from the ambient light source or in slightly gloomy conditions (such as an indoor shooting range) and they go rather dull.

The Amriglo sights suggested above with a white ring around the tritium vial looked very interesting.

Another thumbs-up for James. I sent my slide to him this past Monday from my XDm 4.5 45apc to install the TFO sights. I just got it back in the mail this morning (Sat). They look great, they're perfectly centered, and not a scratch on the slide. Thanks James!

Ameriglo also makes a front similar to the Trijicon HD, with the colored ring around the front sight.

AmeriGlo Weapon Sights | Pistol Sights

With Ameriglo you can buy the front and rear sights separably and pretty much make the sight just like you want it.
White outlines with Tritium or no outlines with Tritium, or blank for the rear.
Same for the front..
Green/green or green/yellow..
Whatever, although they seem to be a little low on stock on certain items.

I sent a set to ajamesp51 to install on my Sig P329.
Front sight fills the rear better at arms length.
The rear is just black no dots.
This is what Ameriglo calls it's Hack set.

I also have a Ameriglo I-Dot sights on my Glock 19..
Lines up dot over dot..

I-Dots are similar to the Heine Straight 8s, but those silver outlines are impossible for me to see.
I bought a set of those for an XD9sc, but sold them before ever having them installed.

The Glock had stock sights on it, the Sig had Siglites that had dimmed.

I used to be a big Trijicon fan, but I've been giving Ameriglo my business as of late.

I'd trust ajamesp51 to work on any of my firearms..
He does great work in a timely manner..
