Talking Slide sent for a Coat and TFO's

I sent my slide to James today.

I'm going to get a matte black coating on the slide and a set of tfo's (green/green) installed.

I will post pics and my experience when the job is complete.

Care to elaborate? James duracoated mine back in October, and I've carred it several times in my Crossbreed Supertuck, and so far there is no sign of wear at all. I'm just curious why you said this. James did tell me that the longer you let it cure before shooting/holstering, the harder it would be and more durable. Mine usually rides in my truck in an Uncle Mike's neoprene holster, so that's where it went when I got it back from him, and 99% of the time it is in there, but I've had no problems with it from the supertuck.

I have wear on mine already. I shot with it 3 weeks after it was coated. The coating is coming off of all of the small parts (chamber indicater and firing pin plate), all contact areas (from barrel and frame), and where the spent shells hit on the ejection port.

As you can see in my sig. photo, I went with bright red, so the wear is very noticeable. But with 3000+ rounds thru it since I had it coated, a little wear and tear is understood.

Well, my slide arrived at my house yesterday. Problem is that I'm out of town. The wife said that it looked great.

I'll post a review and some pics after I get back home in about a week.

They say the longer you can let it cure, the more durable it will be. So don't put it thru any marathon sessions right away, until you see how it will hold up.

It arrived last Saturday, but I was already in Ohio and just flew back from New York today and had my first look at it.

WOW!!

I'm impressed. James did a great job on the KG Gunkote and the TFO installation. I need to get out to the range and see if the POA has changed from what I'm used to.

The slide was returned 1 week later than first indicated. That ticked me off a little, but not too bad.

I had read another post somewhere that somebody had decided not to buy TFOs because they thought that a BG would be able to see the "glow" of the TFOs from the top of the pistol. This is not true. You have to be almost right behind them in order to pick them up.

On to the pics (sure wish I had a better camera!) Notice the complete lack of rust anywhere.

i compete with my
xd
and the
duracoat
doesn't
really hold up well. does pretty good for the first 700 or so holster/
unholsters
. not bad for an average shooter but during a week i do at least that many just dry fire practicing. i have
duracoat
on my carry gun, my shotgun, my cx4 and its great for that kind of stuff, but on my
competition
gun it just looks like crud after the first week. and i did wait 4 weeks before i shot it after i
duracoated
it.

I've heard on this thread DuraCoat and KG GunKote, two very different products.

If the XD is properly pretreated, both of these should be a decent color coat job. As long as it's sandblasted properly and all the oil is removed, (including fingerprint residue from improper handling), the finishes will turn out very nice indeed. This isn't something you can just rush through, it takes time and preparation.
However, holster wear is going to happen regardless, would be less if a leather holster was used.
