Holla: XDm Cleaning

Will the bore ever be clean again?

At one angle with a flash light, the bore looks clean -with a mirror finish.

At another angle, the bore looks scaled.

What gives? How do we clean the bore back to "black" new again?

Boresnake/Gun cleaner etc all used.

The bore should be shiny. It shuld also be smooth looking.
Some reflections will make it look strange.

Yep, it should be as new looking. Firing rounds down the barrel just smooths it out if anything and once you clean it it should look as new or maybe even a little better.

Heck... I've got a 20 gauge Ithaca Model 37 manufactured in 1961 whose bore is as shiny and mirror-like as the day it left the factory.

When you clean the bore properly it will look as good as, or better, than new.

If it is like nedw then it sould be and not broken in....a barrel is just like a motor in a car it needs to be broken in. However, this is not to say that it shouldn't look clean with no residue left after cleaning. I usually soak the bore down with a brush & solvent set it aside and clean the slide and its other internals. Then run a few patched thru it and soak it again with a patch and finish cleaning the rest of the gun and lube. then run 6-8 patches through the bore and oil and reassemble. Of course this is just me and I have been told Im kinda anal about my gun cleaning regimine LOL

Thanks.

So, put a flash light on the other end of the barrel...does it seem shiny when you look from the other side? Mine does too.

However, if I put a strong light (LED?) on same side of the barrel
as looking into I see some discoloration or what ever. In other words, not solid, mirrored black.

Point being, I don't think after 750 rounds or more one will ever
get the barrel to stay "store bought new" right?

I have a well-used old '44 Enfield with a nice shiny bore.

Don't know what kind of light you're using, but sometimes the reflector on the light will cause odd patterns.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is the "bore"? Is it different than the barrel?
