Red face What's the big brush for?

Greetings!

I recently got my first handgun, the XDm 9mm.

This is probably a stupid question but, what is that big brush for that came with the kit?

Clean the magazine well perhaps?

You've done the right thing by checking out the Forums for your answers!

The brush is for your barrel. Although it isn't very high quality, it will work for a basic cleaning. However, you're going to need a solvent and oil to do a proper cleaning.

In all honesty, I would pretty much toss that brush in the garbage and get a high quality cleaning kit. It will work fine for what it is intended to do, but there are much better options out there.

Hope you enjoy your new firearm!

Even though it isn't a high quality brush, I wouldn't recommend tossing it. Sometimes keeping all items that come with a gun (including all accessories) can add to the resale value of a gun. Get a better brush, but keep it.

Congrats on your first handgun!
Opinions vary wildly but I really like the Otis cleaning kits along with a standard AR-15 cheap-o kit. The best cleaner I have ever used is called Eezox. It is only sold here:
Eezox premium synthetic lubricants from Warren Custom Outdoor Products
Nothing else I have used comes close.

I had to go check because I didn't know they included a big brush but it was in with the lock.

I think the brush is to clean the magazines out if you ever remove the base plate. Anyway, that's what I'm going to use it for because it is way to big to put in the 9mm bore and even if it did fit it doesn't look like it would do a very good job with the bristles bent way back.

On the bore I'll most likely use Wipeout bore cleaner - no brush needed.

Do you guys think it'll rust if I brush my fangs with it?

It's actually a bore brush but I'll be buying a better one asap.

All this time I thought the brush was a omnidirectional toothbrush. Well it does work well even if that is not what it is for.

Actually thats a bore duster used to field clean a bore. It is made from special Croatian pulled hair so as not to scratch the bore when used correctly.
