Just like any other firearm, it's a general rule of thumb to clean it after every 'outing'.

+1.
I've gone to the range and only shot 50 rounds. Got home and cleaned my xdm 9, finding it to still need a good cleaning.

I would qualify the above statement that it would depend on how many rounds you shoot at each range trip. I see no reason to clean a gun after shooting 50-100 rounds, maybe even 150 rounds, in one range session. I think you can do just as much harm by taking it apart all the time as you can by leaving it "dirty" after firing 50 rounds.
I know some will disagree, but repeated field stripping can not have a "positive" effect on any firearm.
Of course, this all depends on how frequently and how much you shoot.

It had better be no need for cleaning for at least 1K rounds or someone will be able to buy mine cheap.

I usually clean after every outing but I run about 100-200 rounds at least when I get out to the range. I have wondered if I clean to regular or if I should feild strip the gun that often. Sometimes when shooting different ammo I take it down just to see the results from the ammo & how clean it shoots. Sure am enjoying this gun !

I have to believe that field stripping the gun is easier on the parts than firing it.
I don't think it will hurt to not clean it every time you shoot, but I see no harm in it either.

I have an XD9, so your mileage may vary, but I'm starting to think that I'm a bit OCD with cleaning. I've been cleaning after every range trip. It's fun and I enjoy it, but it might be overkill. I think I might give it a thorough cleaning every 500 or 1K rounds and just do a "light" cleaning after the range.

I run a bore brush after each range outing now and drop on some oil if i was out for awhile. Strip cleaning every 500 rounds or so.
