car oil for gun lube.
Anybody using Mobile 1? I think I'm gonna try using 5w30 for all my guns and see how well it works. Many people seem to swear by it.

I have read about people doing it, but I haven't tried it. Basically I am in your boat.

should be fine unless its UBER cold out and the oil gets thick and into places you dont want thick cold oil. Other than that its a lotta lube / dollar compared to specialty gun lubes.

It should work fine for most applications. Motor oil is a better lubricant that most gun oils but may not clean or protect as well. Motor oils use low solvent base oils so they may not dissolve dirt well.

I've been using it for a while, my guns tend to be very happy with it. From what I have heard, it is supposed to be particularly good for AR's.

I have switched to using it on all my guns and rifles. Been using it for 6 months now. When you put to much on it runs put use a can of air and it blows away. It leaves a nice coat on the gun parts. I live in alaska and sometime I shoot outside when it real cold and I worry about the lube getting stiff. So I did some research on the net and found out others have been using it without any problems. It's made for metal to metal contact and for heat and for pressure. Also the oil has good cleaning attatives to keep the engine clean. It's also cheaper then the CLP I was using. My AR loves it.... keeps it wet all the time. Give it a try.... if it does work pour in your car.
Good luck.

I switched to Mobil 1 a while back, for about 10 bucks you can get a quart and two of those clear ketchup/mustard dispensers from wal-mart which helps in dispensing the oil in small drops rather than pouring out of the plastic bottle. I only use it on my AR and my AK. I use Gun Butter for the handguns since it stays in place a lot better than the mobil 1. Here's another thing to read about Mobil:
