your right lets just agree to disagree... I believe one thing, you obviously are set on another. I am NOT concerned about what he does... just don't want to see another gun owner go to jail over some small little stipulation involved in a self defense shooting turing into a murder charge/conviction. I am going off my research.

Massad Ayoob says himself in plenty of his publications "do not carry a modified gun for self defense..." I read this as modified in anyway. I believe Mr. Ayoob... after all, he has been called PLENTY of times as an expert witness on "self-defense" shootings. And, I'm just offering my opinion since the fella offered his How-to to us.
Are you an attorney? If not, I would refrain from offering legal advice on this forum.

Question I have questions???

So adding grip tape is a modifications?? Lots of LEO add it to their weapons... Having a weapon in your house and a BG breaks in... using my match weapon is not good?? What if its the only weapon working?? Again just asking questions. Changing to night sights... is a modification. Again lots of LEO add nights sights. Making it easy for a sight picture... Again just asking questions.
What if??? Always an unknown factor in a shooting case if it goes that far to court. One shooting here in Alaska never went to court. Shooting was justified.
Just my 2 cents.

Like I said, I don't think he is an attorney. As such he doesn't know what he's talking about and you shouldn't depend on any legal advice he has to offer.

In my humble "personal" opinion. As long as your shotgun isn't sawed off and your AR or AK hasn't been "tweeked" to fire full auto without a class three permit, you'll be ok when observing the basic requirements of use of deadly force in self defense. If you don't know what those are, you shouldn't be carrying a gun anyway.

Of course, if your guns weren't working, you could always use your "modified" kitchen knives (modified by sharpening beyond factory settings), or your baseball bat with a shortened grip. Those would probably also be modified weapons in Qwik48's hypo.

Just saying... according to his hypo, an aftermarket guiderod could mean the difference between self defense and murder.

Question Murder and Self Defense!!!

JRADGTR...Self defense and Murder... two different concepts of using a weapon. Murder I would believe is when you go looking to kill someone. Self defense is when you are being attacked. Here is the thread for a case of an Alaskan getting attacked and not charged. No charges for AK man who used XD .40 in self-defense
There is a big difference.

I want to believe you. Please post 1 link to 1 case where an otherwise lawful use of a weapon in self defense became a charge against the shooter for modifying his weapon. I don't need 20 links to 20 cases. Thanks.

I'm not a lawyer, nor offering legal advise.

Edit: The pistol on the first page was originally a XD9service; you probably didn't know this. I was a bit offended when you asked if there was a successful GC done on a XD9 as if implying that mine wasn't successful. Anyway, yes, you would use XD9sc mags.
Haha, no offense intended, just thought you'd chopped up a .45. Anyway, wanted to know because I'm having a mate chop up my 9mm Service Model and will need to get a sub comp mag to make sure the fit is right. Thanks for the info!
