No SA sells them now.

BTW, for those like me, faint of heart, Canyon Creek offers the grip chop as a service.

Canyon Creek is charging me $75 labor plus $35 for return shipping. Nobody local would do it, nor would SA. I saw a link from Pistol Gear talking about Canyon Creek, and clicked it. A few days later, my XD was on it's way to Canyon Creek.

I was too chicken to cut it myself...

I take that back. It was $60 more than I paid for the gun new; still not bad.
Oh really? well i'd like a further explanation of this, because im sure you didnt sell JUST the gun for 60$ more than you paid for it, there must have been some other variables in the equation, that you conveniently forgot to mention

[quote=jcabin;1066399]why dont you just buy the subcompact model if you want a shorter grip, instead of mutilating the service model? i dont understand the logic behind "chopping" your grip. If you buy a service model then find its printing beyond what you find acceptable, i would say to bring it back before you start firing it and exchange the service model for a subcompact. Though you should have done the research before you made the purchase.. Theres nothing wrong with asking the dealer to let you try each size model in your holster, or the holster you plan to purchase. Theyre going to be making something in the ballpark of 500 dollars off you, so letting you put the gun on your hip for a few minutes isnt going to make them refuse the sale.. just my 2 cents.

I did do research for like 2 weeks went to all the local shops had many in my hand also read reviews of each gun I was considering and not just magazine reviews actual buyers of the guns. I researched Ruger SR9,Taurus 24/7 9mm,Kimbers polymer 9mm and the SA XD 9mm. In the end after reading all the reviews and getting to hold all but the kimber in my hand I chose the xd. why did I not get the sc? becouse I got it off of gunbroker for 459.00 new with the SA rail light and XD gear this is for the bi tone model by the way and couldn't find the same deal for the sc,my local shops were charging 565.00 or more for them and a bit more for the bi tone model. As far as my CCW I got it a week or so before I got my gun. I am not ignorant I know how to research I do not buy a firearm without doing so,I saw there were people who had some issues with it printing but I also saw an equal amount of people who conceal it just fine. what it came down to is could I really pass up the deal I got on the service model...nope. As far as chopping the grip it's no different than people who supe up their cars or trucks or putting all sorts of different mods on your other guns. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

I bought my XD9 new for $415. I sold it for $475 to someone in SC. Believe it or don't, it doesn't matter to me.

Would the 9mm XD sub-compact magazines fit the Xd-9 Service Model with a grip chop done on it?

Or should I use .40 XD sub-compact magazines and just stuff as many 9mm's in as people used to do with CZ's when there was the 10 round mag limit?

Has anyone done a suffessful grip chop on a 9mm XD Service Model?

Thanks!
