really considering doing this myself. The more I read it, the more it seems not that bad to DIY.

I just recently picked up my XD 45, which I was TOLD was the compact model ( not enough research on my part ). Turned out to be the service model.

You can do it man. The first cut is the hardest. Just take your time.

I might wait untill I can make use of my buddies vertical mill.

I have a decently outfitted woodworking shop ( I build electric bass/guitars ), but would like something a little more...exact, to do this.

Ok, so I went ahead and did the chop two days ago on my Service XD 9mm. Some people wonder why we do it and my answer is that I liked the Compact grip size(almost feel like I have better control/grip?) but I didn't like compromising barrel length. I went and got a dremel to do the cutting and sanding but when I went in to make my first cut the dremel ended up dying on me? Haha, it was brand new, so I decided to take it back and get my money back.. Oh well, I then went in with my Exacto knife and cut it down a bit further and followed up with TONS of hand sanding. Got it to fit the SC Mag, but it seemed to be a bit sticky trying to get it in and out. Today I went and grabbed a file and sanded the magwell down to allow more clearance for the mag and now it fits flawlessly! SO happy with the result!

Thanks Packerfanxd! When I fell into this thread I was like YES I want to do it! Haha and I'm glad I did it.

Zfields, I say go for it man! Like everyone says, "the first cut is the deepest and hardest" after that just take your time, keep checking back with the SC Mag and just hand sand.. Hahaha
