I'm going to check into that...thanks Krackel.

I'll have to check, but I'm almost positive that my brake cleaner is non-clorinated. I meant that by covering it you could simulate any damage that may be incurred over long term use.

Deep cleaning is only needed ocassionally IMO.
You can remove all the metal parts from the XD, so how it effects plastic should be a moot point
MOST people way over due the oiling of their pistols, a light coat is just that, and some times more is not better.

If I remember correctly, Breakfree CLP is a "polarizing" lubricant. I have used it for many years. It will serve as a cleaner and lube. The neat thing about Breakfree is that you can clean the s**t out of your barrel (with #9, gun scrubber, etc) until a patch comes out perfectly clean, and then lube it up with CLP and let it sit for a couple of days. Go back and run a clean patch through it and it will come out black! The "polarizing" effect of the CLP gets under deposits in the barrel and lifts them to the surface. It's really all you need for most cleaning. I do blast mine with "Gun Scrubber" once in a while though.
I'm gonna try the "non chlorinated" brake cleaner as we have cases of it at work.

Holy necropost, Batman!
To update my 1st post, Prestone is now my 2nd favorite brake cleaner for gun cleaning.
The "WearEver" brand found at AdvanceAuto is even better.

I spray clp, walk away a couple hours, then come back and clean. Hoppes for the bore, clp gets everywhere else. Air compressor at the end, works well.

I like the idea of the brake cleaner from Advance Auto Parts, because I have a corporate account there. Can you say case discount? Lol!
