messed up my grip chop need help/ideas
i did the grip chop on my xdm 40 4.5"... well everything went great! except for one issue, there is about a 1/8 inch gap between the bottom of the grip and the mag. you can only see some of chrome on the magazine. does anyone have a cheap sugestion to fix this, first thing that came to mind was to paint the magazine black so it doesnt show. but i am looking for a more permanent solution. i dont have 65-80 bucks for a magwell so that is out of question... second thing that came to mind, was to get a grip extension and just cut it down to a small sliver, but i dont know if that will work either. any input would be greatly appreciated.

Build it up with black epoxy that you can sand and shape. Something like this: Devcon 62345 S-6 High Strength Plastic Steel Filled Epoxy, Black at PlumberSurplus.com
In the end, you are only fixing a cosmetic issue.

what are you talking about by buying a magwell for 65-80 bucks. The magwell is attached to the rest of the lower part of the frame.
There are a couple of things you can do. One is chop some off the bottom of your mags to make up the difference. However, you will have to rebend the tab on the metal that the mag plate slides onto. So that isn't an easy fix.
The other is like the poster above said. Take and build it back up and sand it to match. Than stipple the whole magwell to make it blend in.
Third is to just leave it that way. If the gun works than it's only cosmetic.

thats probably what i will end up doing is build it back up, and either stiple it or put a sleave on it... when you all stiple your grips do you sand down the sqare pieces on it first or just leaven em on and stiple all of it?

Best way to stipple one is to remove everything else that sticks up. If feels like your grinding right through the grip. Just be sure to take off just enough to give your grip a smooth surface free of the factory stipple. After that than you can lay down your pattern. I like two different types of stipples. I like the stipples that is made of lines and the point stipple if your fully do it, it looks good.
Here is what my stipple looks like. I did it before I did my grip chop. It's better if you do it second. I believe you can fix yours no problem. Just do it with the right stuff and don't settle for second best just because you couldn't find it at walmart.
Mag Chop?

You should build it back up with epoxy. You can sand it smooth so you don't have to stipple if you don't want to. If you leave the gap you have the risk of over inserting the magazine on a slidelock reload and damage your ejector.

Didn't I say, somewhere WAY back there. "Don't try this at home" Leave it to the Pro's.
Anyhow, hind sight is always 20/20.
