Old school question
I know that it is kind of "old school", but what does everyone think of the old "3 in 1 " oil. Used to use it on my bikes, pocketknives. etc..., have started using it on my xd/xdm/xds collection. Seems to work okay, anyone's thoughts?

^ Considering I use Slide Glide grease on my pistol rails that is a very valid point Talon.
carstensxd45, there are many other options that don't cost that much more than 3 in 1 oil if cost is the issue.
Although I'd never use Mobil 1 automotive oil on my firearms, I would chose it over the 3 in 1.
And many here that do use Mobil 1 on their firearms..
Also stay away from WD-40, also not a good firearm lube..

Its thicker than RemOil, that is what I have been using exclusively, How does the Mobil 1 oil do as far as attracting dirt and debris? Not having any problems, just trying to improve what I am already doing.

I use slide glide and mobil 1 10w-30. Never had a problem with either but I am a little OCD when it comes to cleaning. I like mobil 1 for certain parts of the pistol that I want the oil to migrate into. I have not noticed any excess build up over any other gun specific oils I have used ( I have a box full but seem satisfied with my current combination).

Nothing wrong with it. I've used it.

Someone with over 14K posts over the years must know something. Thanx, I appreciate your responses, and the others also.

Nothing against it 3 In 1 (it's been lubing sewing machines for decades, and that's what it was designed for), but I don't like to use oil on my guns. If I lube at all, I use a white lithium grease. Oil and grease can attract and hold dirt and grit, and can be messy if too much is applied. I typically use a couple of toothpick points for my whole gun. A good handgun will run perfectly almost dry, with no excessive wear. Don't put ANY lube in the striker channel!

"3 in 1" oil has been proven to be absolute crap in lubricating firearms and protecting them from rust.
Motor oil like Mobil 1 is specifically designed to work inside the atmosphere of an engine. Your gun is not fired inside of a pressurized engine. Mobil 1 is not a very good rust preventative (in a harsh environment) but many people slap a layer of it on their rifles when storing them longer term in their gun safe.
You want a cheap and effective rust preventative for the outside of your gun? Use human-safe mineral oil.
