Bought a used XD sub compact 9mm NIB. sight adjustment questions
Just like the title says I bought a used XD sub compact 9mm that was unfired and still in the box with everything untouched. Guy owned it for a week never shot it, brought it back to the store and I bought it from them. Basicly I don't know if Springfield would know if I was the second owner or not. Anyway the gun shoots 3'' - 4'' to the right. My buddy usually pulls to the left about and inch and when he shoot it it was around 2 1/2'' - 4'' to the right also so I know it isn't me.
Anyway is there a way for me to move the rear sights and which way to move them? I also don't want to spend money on an expensive tool for one time use.
Thank you for having me here!!!

Welcome to the forums!
You will receive many responses from people telling you that the sights are perfectly correct and that you must be doing something wrong to make it miss like that...
And it may be true... but that wasn't your question.
Yes - It is possible to move the sights. If you're mechanically inclined you'd probably already have figured it out. Typically it does require an expensive sight tool. You can try moving them with a strong brass punch and a big hammer... but the things are put in place with a hydraulic press(several ton I'd imagine) and they are in there REALLY tight. Take it to a gun smith, or send it to ajames51(owner of XD-HS2000.com and IMO one of the "XD Jedi Counsel" members)
But in the end it's probably best to shoot it more first. The trigger on the XD's does take some getting used to. And it may be that your grip/stance/trigger control just needs some tweaking.

Are you a southpaw?

My NIB XDsc needed a sight adjustment. It was shooting way left. You could see the rear sight was not centered.

I'm right handed. To be honest I shoot right handed but stand with my left foot more forward then my right. My buddy is right handed but shoots left handed and his right foot is further forward.
BTW I had to look southpaw up instead of asking a question about it here. I'm really surprised I didn't get more questions on how can it be used if NIB? LOL

Shoot a bunch from a rest to be SURE it's the sights and not something you're doing when you pull the trigger. If it IS the sights, take it to a smith. Springfield sights are put in EXTREMELY tightly. Trying to move them with a punch and hammer is iffy, at best. When I removed mine to install some TruGlo TFO's it took a 3/32" punch, 3 pound maul, lots of sweat, and some cusswords I invented just for the project. I'd never do it again.

Thank you very much. I was kinda deciding whether or not to get night sight's for the XD. Kinda makes me think now. LOL But I will try it from a bench....

Like others have suggested, take it to a smith or send it off to someone to do. I haven't personally tried to remove the sights but the local smith I use, who is terrific, will utter a string of profanity unheard in the civilized world when discussing changing XD sights. He still only charges $25 bucks to do it, but he says the first few he did were sooooo bad that he will never pass up the chance to curse about them. I believe he now has a press he uses plus a routine he's used to.
Take them to a smith, pay a few bucks, let someone else do them. Or buy new adjustable sights and have them installed for a slight fee - then you can adjust yourself rather than tapping the sights and you won't have to mess with it.
Good luck.

Ok but if I get someone to adjust them is it a one time thing or will I have to shoot it and take it back to him numerous times?

It depends on if the smith has a range at his use or close by. You can go ahead on the night sights, just get a smith to install them for you.
