XD with Broken Roll Pin

I did this video to help a police department out with some tech support. None of the XD`s used on duty have broken a roll pin, but one deputy likes to dry fire. And even with snap caps still broke a roll pin. Carrying another weapon he was involved in an shooting incident. This deputy then began to wonder what would have happened if he had been carrying his XD at the time. And he began to wonder what about the other deputies and their XD duty pistols. So I made this video for the department and academy to show that even with no roll pin the pistol will still work. In addition when the pistol does jam from not having a roll pin how to clear it. This is something everyone needs to know, since some people/experts can not "trust" their XD due to the roll pin. This is important for them since they have so many XD`s coming through the academy.

This should hammer home:

When you use your pistol clean and inspect them!

If you do your inspections you will find stuff like this and can take care of it before a problem happens.

The roll pin is an expendable part, change it after every 3 thousand rounds.
(and before you say that would be every week for you, even 3000 9mm would cost you at least 150.00 so you say 450.00 dollars worth of ammo each week.....yea right)

If you excessively dry fire use snap caps, the striker hits this spring (roll pin) every time you dry fire. Dry fire is good and will help you hone your skill. But if you sit in your underwear and dry fire at your tv for a couple hrs each day know you will accelerate the wear. Change the roll pin every couple months even if you think it does not need it. Think about it as a couple bucks of insurance.

Keep these roll pins on hand!
I sell these factory pins
And Powder River sells their brand
Brownells sell the powder river ones.

Detail disassembling the slide for no reason..............if it aint broke why are you trying to fix it? The number one job a gunsmith fixes is a customer who did not know what they were doing trying to fix something. Think about it and know your technical limits. If you still insist to detail disassemble good for you, you should know how it works. Just learn how to properly take it apart and reassemble.

Is a 1/8" x 5/8" HCP essentially the same as the 3mm x 16mm roll pin?

Let's do the math.

.125 in. = 3.175mm

.625 in. = 15.875 mm

little fatter, little shorter.
