Custom Trigger work vs Drop in Trigger

Hello.

I am debating on which trigger setup to go with.

A) Send the gun to springer for a $170 competition trigger job plus ~$100 shipping... $270 plus the fact that I would probably get new sights if I sent it all the way up there.

or

B) Drop in trigger from Springer or PRP for $120-$140 plus shipping.

How much better would the customer trigger work be vs the drop in?

Thank you for the help.

FYI, we cap round trip shipping at $85 if you request a label.

I posted below on this thread the results of the drop in kit versus the gunsmith installed "ultimate" kit. The gunsmith one is better but not by a whole lot, the drop in kit is excellent and does 80% of everything the ultimate kit does. Having the gunsmith do it I was able to ask for 4 - 4.5lbs of trigger pull and get it, and it's crisp, clean, with no load and almost no overtravel. On the drop in it's about a half pound lighter and it was going to be what it was going to be - I couldn't adjust.

I like both and don't mind paying for the job on my XDm 45 as that's my favorite gun and the one I splurge on. On my 9mm compact XDm I'm glad I went with the drop in as it is just fine. I have a 9 sub compact XD and if I do a trigger I will do it myself with the drop in.

The PRP guys make a fantastic product.

If you really want the best trigger you can get you should send it off.

Like many things in life, you can get 80% of the benefit from 20% of the work.

If you want that last 20% for the most exceptional trigger possible on the platform, it probably has to be a custom job.

Both of the businesses you mentioned do greatly discounted Fed-ex shipping labels -- discuss with them prior and you'll save money.

The drop in kit came with two different weight springs for two locations in the weapon so I have nine different combinations of weight for the trigger including the stock springs. Right now both of the lightest ones installed and it's pretty smooth. How can you adjust the ultimate one? ....actually it's double that(18) if I include one spring that you can pull out and don't need to replace so you actually can adjust it quite a bit.

The utlimate was adjusted by the gunsmith, I asked for 4 to 4.5 and he's right in between. On the drop in I did myself you get what it gives. On the ultimate the smith adjusts it by filing and spring combinations, but I don't know exactly how.
