XD .40 Loaded chamber indicator

First time on this forum- have a number of XD/Ms when installing an Arredondo mag extension kit n an older standard XD .40 (12 round to 15 rd )the loaded chamber indicator grabs each round and jams. Removing the indicator cures the problem. But is there a safety issue caused by leaving it out?

My theory is if you take out the indicator youll still have a viewing hole to visually determine if it is piped or not. It won't be as obvious as the indicator but it will still work. That will also leave a hole for dirt and crap to get in as well.

did you use a new Follower spring in the Magazine ? If so I would just trim it down a little, start with a half and inch or half a coil of the followere spring. Just my idea. There will be contraditions but you can always get another spring very cheaply. But my guess is its pushing up to hard. Or use the old spring.

Loaded chamber Jams revisited

Thanks for all the input-good group here!
I tried installing the same Arredondo mag extension kit on a much modified
Canyon Creek XD 9MM 5" with no problems.
May try and modify the old chamber indicator so it's out of harms way on the chamber end-that'll cure the dirt trap problem-will rely on the good ole safety check to ensure it's clear!
thanks to ya'll

The mag spring has nothing to do with the loaded chamber indicator causing feed problems.

OP when you removed the indicator did you have trouble taking it out of the slot? Before removing it were you able to easily move it up and down with you finger? Sounds like you LCI is out of spec or the pin holding it out of spec. I've never heard of a LCI causing feeding issues. By the time the round gets to the point where it touches the LCI it is already in the chamber and the case is more the 3/4 of the way in the chamber. The only thing the LCI could cause is failure to go into battery.
