Can i convert an XD to and XDM?
im hoping that this is in the right area so please move it if its not. my question is this.
If i buy a XD and install a match grade barrel and better trigger, will my XD be equivalent to an XDM?
I am asking this because i live in California and can not get the XDM here. I know there are other factors differing the two pistols but will these additions make it pretty comparable or no?

If I were you, and wanted to upgrade and XD... I would go for a trigger and maybe some sights. I don't know that the barrel upgrade would be all that necessary. However, I'm not a gunsmith, so I might not know what the heck I'm talking about....

Keep dreaming bud, I'm a Californian also and could only dream of owning a xdm. However my XD 9 service pistol is just fantastic !
Even so, they are two different pistols. From what I know most parts are not interchangeable. If want an xdm move to a free state.

No need to dream my CA brothers, you can easily buy an XDM through the single shot exemption. It will cost a little more, but you can get nearly any handgun you want in this way. Go over to the calguns.net forum and search on SSE. I got my XDM in December, and recently added a gen4 Glock 17.

I'd buy an aftermarket stainless match barrel (around 200 bucks), go for a good trigger job, and maybe add a stainless guide rod, and I think you're as good or better than any XDm.
I grew up in cali and one of the nice things about leaving is buying what gun I want and not waiting a silly 15 days.

Get a better barrel and Trigger and maybe a custom grip to fit you better and you have something better than an XDM .

I've read up on the SSE and it does seem like a good loop hole to jump through. However, it just seems like a bunch of bs to go through for a pistol. How bad was the process at your FFL? Are you legally allowed to return it to original condition ?

I have looked into the SSE, but here is what im trying to find out. The XDM price tag is already 200+ bucks over the XD then add the SSE thats another 100+ bucks then FFL fees, then modifying the mags for 10 rounds. After all is said and done is the XDM worth the extra approx 400 bucks or would it be cheaper and easier ( less of a headache ) to just change out the trigger and barrel and whatever else is improved onto the XDM over the XD or would it be the same price or cheaper just to do the SSE and pick up an XDM?
hope that makes sense.
I hate living in Cali and being a gun owner. and before anyone says move out im stuck with a good job and family to support so i cant!
