magazines wont fall out

hey guys. i was at the range today and was practing my speed reloads. i put 3 rounds in each magazine. bang bang bang. drop the mag and reload from holster. i came into a problem with every magazine i have, which is 5. none of my mags were falling out of my gun. i have an xd 40 service model. of course when there are rounds in my magazine, it will fall out because of the weight. but after my mag runs empty, i hit the mag release button and the mag only drops an inch. it doesn't fall to the ground. it was doing this to all of my mags. i asked the range master and he said that all the XD 40 and XD 45 are like that because the mags are stainless steel and they expand. The XD 9 wasn't doing it at the range. Only the XD40 and XD45. Does anybody know if there is a fix to this? Too bad they arent polymer like glock magazines

I clean up my magwell and a tiny bit of oil rubbed around. Sometimes a lil on the magg too.

I sent in my XD 45 just about a month ago for this same issue. They sent me new magazines which is exactly what they did 1 year ago for the same problem??? I was perplexed to say the least and I do not think this is an acceptable fix. So every time it does this I will send it in again and again until they rectify the problem.

They seem to work fine until you take them out and fire them a few hundred rounds or so.

My mags will do this as well, to combat this and fix it I keep the mag well extremely clean as well as my magazines, and will even wipe a bit of lube on the mag then wipe it off with a towel so it makes the mag a bit more slippery. This fixed the problem with mags not dropping free when empty on my XD40 Service Model. Mainly though it's just keeping the outside of the mag wiped down and clean so there's no scuff marks on it cuz scuff marks is what stops the mag from dropping free, at least this was my problem.. Easy fix though, just gotta keep everything clean.

Doing this will keep the mags dropping free for at least a couple hundred rounds out of the mag before it needs to be wiped down again, but I do it after every range trip (not the oil, just wiping it off and using some solvent for any scuff marks) and haven't had a problem with mags dropping free since. I'd suggest giving that a try.

I'll try the oil the mag solution but I dont think it will work. I had both the 40 and 45 both do this. I however haven't heard of the XDM doing this but not 100% sure. If Glock comes out with the gen 4 30 I'm thinking of trading my XD for one and staying with Glock. I don't like the XD or XDM stock triggers and the Glock triggers are nice stock. Plus the mag issue is resolved.

If you like Glocks and the angle of the frame doesn't bug you then i'd go for it they're really reliable guns! I just can't shoot them at all, they're EXTREMELY uncomfortable for me grip wise, i don't like the angle it's at and i just have never been a fan of them. I know they're very reliable, i'm not taking that from them at all, they just don't work well with me. I MUCH prefer the XD over any Glock any day, but that's personal preference. The way the gun is just makes it hard for me to shoot accurately/comfortably. They rub the CRAP out of the joint of the thumb on my strong hand from the beavertail/way it's designed, and i don't have that problem with the XD at all! Glocks have just never worked for me, but if they do work for you, i'd highly recommend them!

I have a silicone infused cloth that I wipe down my mags with. They drop free smooth as butter. My magwell is filthy, though... I field strip and clean my XD45 after every range trip, but focus on the metal and moving parts. I'm kinda lazy that way. It's quick and easy to wipe the mags down with the silicone cloth.

^Agreed, you have to keep them nice and clan with no scuff marks from the frame on them, and keep them whipped own like said above by Pugs. I just tried mine out and noticed one of mine wasn't dropping freely all the time, so i took my "car wash rags" which are the micro towels and whipped it down and really had to scrub at the little scuff it had on the side, but after it dropped out every time. In my case it's having little scuff marks on the outside of the mag that causes it on mine.

Use some Gunzilla on the magwell each time you clean the gun and it should be fine. all seven of mine slide right out. I rarely even clean the mags.
