What i did was take the empty mag and slide it in. Wiggled it to see where the bind was. Side to side was good. Front to back wasnt. Looked at the back and front and found dents from the inside out. So i took a small brass hammer and flattened it down again and works new again. These seem to be softer than most mags. I couldve sent them back but this was a quicker fix

And I thought I was the only one with this problem! Two out of the four mags I have get stuck and only drop down about 1/2 inch. Then I have to tug them out. I've measured and checked every single side with my calipers, compared springs, followers, openings, etc. and I don't see any variance between a mag that releases easily and one that gets stuck. Very frustrating! So now I mark the 'bad' ones with an Sharpie so I know not to load them first during a competition stage that involves a mag change. Bummer. I'll try to silicone cloth recommendation tonight.

Do you guys twist the gun while releasing mag? This is my technique, which brings the bottom of the magwell up close to my face so I can look inside while insertig the next mag. Anyway this twist and release always has the mags flying out.

Also the dents on the front/back is something I've never looked for. Gonna check that when I get home.

On the same note, my Kahr CW9 sometimes will not release the mags. But those "sometimes" are when I'm trying to go as fast as possible. And I grip the pistol hard enough to flex the handle and put resistance on the mags. The polymer is very thin on the CW9. The XDM polymer seems twice as thick so I'm not sure if a person's uber strong grip could flex the frame enough to put resistance on the mag.

Eh, something to consider.

THIS +1

I actually dropped my loaded mag onto a tile floor today and it would not even go back in! I thought I had killed it, but after taking a look at it I realized it had bent long and wasn't fitting any more. I laid it flat on a table and used the flat part of the slide to tap it back into the right shape. After I tested to make sure it worked I checked my other mag and it too was not dropping free. I did the same thing and they both work perfectly now.

The problem is the front to back clearance. Lay it on a table and give it a few taps with something flat and heavy on the front of the mag and it will work perfectly.

The tapping method does work but my issue is that it's still not right. Everyone with this problem needs to have SA address it so they come up with a suitable fix. Tapping the front and back of the mags isn't a suitable fix to this problem. They should drop freely in their own.

The mags are simply deforming slightly because of time/use/heat. Tapping them back into place isn't going to do any damage. HS would have to either thicken the metal in the mags or completely redesign them to fix the problem and that would be highly unfeasible. It is a simple fix, why ram it down their throat? Think of it like a regular maintenance issue, like changing spark plugs. A few quick taps every few hundred rounds and you're good to go.

What about the brand new magazines that they just sent me a couple of weeks ago that do it? Would you say that it's normal to do it after shooting one magazine through? That's the problem.

I have not had this problem with my XD and five mags, but just had a thought:
instead of trying to "reform" mags, how about doing a tiny "resize" of magwell? Take an offending mag, wrap in fine emery, rub in and out of magwell. Just enough to remove just a bit of polymer.

I took my .45 ACP XD to the range yesterday and had this "mags not dropping free" syndrome as well.

I've owned the pistol since 2007, shot thousands of rounds through it, but never had a magazine fail to drop. Out of my ten standard-capacity magazines, yesterday seven did not drop when empty. With the mags and empty gun at home, I see the same behavior. As I type this, I have two magazines that look exactly the same, but one hangs up and one doesn't.

I can't see anything that might be causing magazines to bind up in the mag well. The well itself is clean as can be.

I called Springfield about this, and they're going to replace the seven problem magazines. The whole process will take several weeks. Fortunately, I have plenty of other guns to keep me busy in the meantime.

FWIW, they emailed a prepaid FedEx shipping label, and are only asking me to send in the magazines. I couldn't ask for better service. This isn't the first time either - they not only paid shipping, but outright replaced my original XD in 2006, when it could not be made to work with factory .45 ACP ammo.
