WD-40 actually attracts dirt and holds on to it..
I am with the other non traditionalists and use Lucas Red and Tacky grease to lube. You can use CLP or any other common degreasers to get it clean but when it comes to lube, I will stick with my automotive lubes. They just work that much better from what I have experienced.
