Cleaning barrel with a cordless drill

Was just wondering how many people on here have tried cleaning your barrel with a cordless drill with a rod and a brush in the chuck? Had never heard of this before until I took my CCW class last year. The instructor of the class use to be in the top ten of one of the pistol competitions(not too familiar with them) and he said after a day of practice and thousands of rounds he would take one piece of a rifle cleaning with the brush and chuck it in the cordless drill, soak the barrel with solvent and would be clean in a minute. Of course I never shoot enough in one day to require doing this but I was just wondering how many others do this?

I've only done this on the firing pin of my AR, and then it was only when it was extremely gummed up from cheap ammo. Otherwise, I haven't needed that extra umph.

Nothing can become so dirty due to shooting it that it would require power tools to clean.
Bore solvent, lead remover, bore brush, nylon brush and a good soaking is all it should take.

Purchase a jar of pickled asparagus. Eat them or toss them in the trash. Wash jar and lid very well. In the bottom of the jar place part of a new plastic dish scrubber. The kind that looks like heavy steel wool but is made from plastic. This is used to hold the barrel off the bottom of the jar. Fill the jar to within 1 inch of the top with Butch’s Bore Shine. Return from range, remove barrel. Wipe with dry towel and one dry patch up and down bore. Place barrel in jar submerged in Butch’s, place lid on jar. Go to bed, get up go to work, Get home greet wife and kids, remove barrel from jar and replace lid. Wipe barrel with towel and run tight patch up and down barrel. Barrel will now be spotless. Change out the Butch’s when it gets filthy and stops working.

*Facepalm*

A little bore solvent and a little patience. Let the chemicals do the work.

I have not done this. I have never shot enough in one session that I could not get it clean with patches, brush and solvent. It just sounded kind of strange to me that someone would need to use a cordless drill to get a barrel clean.

i can definitely understand doing this on the bolt carrier of an AR after shooting some cheap, dirty ammo. on a handgun...no way. completely unnecessary. its not like its difficult to run a bore snake through it with some solvent.
why take the risk?
