Enough has already been said above, but a bore snake takes 2 seconds with a couple passes to clean perfectly!?! I would never go at it with a power tool

Thanks for the assist. Totally worthy of the DFP in my opinion.

This is much like how the Siren Song of the hand-held, variable-speed, rotary tool calls out to some when it comes time for a little kitchen table gun-smithing. Simply put, I can't wrap my brain around how involving power-tools in the firearms cleaning process would strike anyone as a good idea. Unless alcohol was involved of course...

Return from range, remove barrel. Wipe with dry towel and one dry patch up and down bore. Place barrel in jar submerged in Butch’s, place lid on jar. Go to bed, get up go to work, Get home greet wife and kids, remove barrel from jar and replace lid. Wipe barrel with towel and run tight patch up and down barrel. Barrel will now be spotless. Change out the Butch’s when it gets filthy and stops working.

Sounds like a hassle ... Next time just use a zip-lock bag

Gee I wonder what my lathe & mill cutter could destroy

On a serious note, I think the drill might be a touch overkill.
Barrels are tough although if that much buildup is occurring a brass patch should be used.

Lewis has provided us with these for decades.

No hassle at all. Jar has not leaked once in 18 years.

You should see what a bore looks like when an "expert" does the drill thing but uses a Stainless Steel bore brush

Oh dear gawd. Please, go on. Like a train wreck, as horrible as it is, I can't look away.

I can't get the picture of a $2500 Match-grade M1A turned "smoothbore" out of my head...

Well then think of this one to clear your mind, and yes that is a real Leatherwood scope and mount.

Hey I didn't think about that one, I should have told him I could take it to work and chuck it up in the lathe and get it real clean for him.

Probably wouldn't even need bore solvent that way.
