I'd like to have some Trigicon tritium sights installed on my .45 XDm. I've stopped by a few shops and talked to a few people at local gun shows. It seems no one wants to do them. If this thread doesn't help I'll just send my slide off to Springfield. I'd much rather go local if possible. Thanks for any input!

I checked there. The kid behind the counter told me the sights were not removable on the XDm.

Hey Bad. The kid gave you bad info. I removed mine using a drummel after trying unsuccessfully using punch and small hammer in a vice with leather on each side of slide to protect. I proceeded with slide still in vice but used drummel perpendicular to slide, cutting old sights right in half long ways. They fell out when I thought I cut as far as I could before hitting slide. I stopped just short of that and when I removed from vice and turned slide over, the old sights just fell away. I installed laserlite rear sight and had mot problems. I can't say anything about front sight, as I did not need to remove it. I am far from being any kind of a gunsmith, but managed without any damage to slide. Glad I attempted it. But I suggest if you do, be patient and deliberate.

I know this thread is over a month old, but I thought I'd comment anyway. I'm in the Houston area and wanted to have some Meprolight sights installed on my XD. I took it up to the kid at Gander Mountain and after three weeks he admitted that he couldn't get the old ones off.

I ended up sending my slide and sights to one of the commercial supporters/members here on XD-Talk. Installation is $20 ($15 for XD-Talk member special was going on at the time). Anyhow, the link is xd-hs2000

I see this member posting here in the gunsmith section quite often and he has posted a few DIY tutorials on detail stripping, Duracoating, ect.

I'd say if you just going to do one or two sets of sights, then this is the way to go. Either with xd-hs2000 or Springer or Springfield, as long as it's someone with experience talking off factory XD sights.
