I have a 5 yr old girl, 2 yr old girl, and a 5 month old son , I cannot fool the 5 yr old , she is way to smart. I told my wife ( who does not share my firearm passion ) that when the kids are old enough and show interest I am going to teach them.
I have been eyeing the 22 pink cricket for my 5 yr old

I agree, all this teaching them that they are bad ends up making them too curious. I would venture to guess that if everyone addressed guns as to be respected and only handled for recreation or real self defense situations then gang banging kids would go down, maybe not by much, but atleast a little
pink guns are cool, I keep thinking of coating my .45 pink, because real men wear pink

I volunteer as a RSO at one of the ranges I use. I mostly work on our rimfire only nights, which draw in a lot of families. We have some shooters as young as 3-4 shooting under a parent’s supervision. One of which shoots very fine groups, if I do say so. As the RSO I love seeing the next generation take up our sport, but I would offer this advice. If you are taking a young child to the range remember that is why you are at the range. Until such a time that your youngster is ready to shoot alone, please keep a close eye on them, even if that means you don’t get to shoot. I’m sure that in this audience I am preaching to the choir but the safety of any new shooter needs to be our reasonability.

Is it just me? There's no way n hell I would expose a kid that young to lead. Even with my older teenage kids. I don't let them even pick up brass or clean up at the range.

You make a semi valid point, the gun my son was cleaning was fresh out the safe, had been cleaned twice before he did, and no trips to the range in between. Plus he was just q tipping the slide for dust, no barrel work.
Mostly he likes to think he's helping.....
Posted the pic for a smile!
